I'm not quite sure what this means? It seems as though I'm being cancelled from this site but not sure why.

  Warning System
Posted by: amykhar - 10-20-2009 10:52 PM - No Replies

We had this in place on the old server, but I figured I should post what the warning system means around EA.

1. A moderator or admin can warn you, which results in you receiving warning points. Some points expire in time. Others do not.

2. If you get 3 points, your posts have to be moderated before they appear on the live board. Flaming somebody will result in 2 points being added. The points expire after a week.

3. Spamming gets you an automatic 10 points and out the door you go. Spam points never expire and the ban is never lifted.

As the need arises (it never did on the old server) we can add more reasons that warnings are given. If we do, this thread will be updated.

As always, please report posts you believe are in violation.

Thanks.

If You Need to Reset Your Password

Next to the login box is a 'lost password' link. The emails, unfortunately, end up in your spam email (at least on gmail, they do)

I know our smilies aren't set up yet. They will be. Smile I moved them all to the new server. I kinda like the new ones though.

Gang, we have been with Vbulletin since 2000, but some corporate restructuring on their end has made it necessary for us to move to a new forum package. I have picked one that is very similar in user interface to vbulletin. And, if it lacks any features we love, I'll just hack them into it.

I'm also moving us to a new web host. I found one that will give us the space for our large database but will not charge us for a full server. We simply don't need a dedicated server anymore at our traffic level.

This has some downsides. The move to a new host AND forum package will take time. Downtime could be more than a day. I will work with the new place to try to get the process as painless as possible.

All of this may mean some bookmarks to existing threads and such will break. But, you should be able to easily search for and rebookmark the threads. The content won't be gone.

  Captain, We're Going Down!
Posted by: amykhar - 09-26-2009 09:26 PM - Replies (5)

Our web host is changing data centers. So, this means they will be yanking all of our files and sending them byte by byte to another server. Not exactly sure when that is going to happen, but they are building our new home as I type this. So, if we disappear for a while, that's what it is.

I have a hunch this is a hint as to why we've been down a couple of times recently.
