hi Amy, i am wondering if you create a mod that will users to register from a white list of email domains. Having spent the last hour deleting spam bots, i found most of these bots do not use the major three free email service providers (gmail, hotmail and yahoo) but rather obscure 3rd party emailing services or domains that the spammer owns.
The system would kick in when a user tries to register with a email that is not on the list, he will then be prompted with a error message something along the lines,
Sorry, but you can only register from the following domains, if your email is from a valid ISP please contact us and we will add it to our white list.
@gmail.com
@yahoo.com
@msn.com
etc...
Apart from individual domains, a valid extensions could also be added such as a .edu , so that any domain ending with a .edu will be allowed to register. |
