Are cats obsolete?

Another cat & dog article from the NYT:

Quote:
Cats, for example, do poorly on many animal I.Q. tests simply because it's almost impossible to devise a reward that cats care enough about to work for.

No, shiney metal cats are obsolete.

I just asked Oscar if cats should be outlawed. He's annoyed that someone might consider taking about about 1/3rd of his entertainment.

I already have two of these. No batteries or assembly required. And they do a lot more.

I think the pets are great for older people, like the article said, who don't want to deal with a litter box. The litter box is not that troublesome for me--it's easier to clean than an infant would be and doesn't need it as frequently.

The dog article was very interesting. However, my cats seem to have me trained pretty well and they know all the signs when I'm about to stuff them into carriers or bring out the vacuum cleaner.
