Took advantage of spring's belated arrival to attempt some basic training of my servant. I thought that, given the importance of communication, it would be a good idea to establish a rudimentary system of signals using a green disc. (Although the servant has demonstrated that she can hear and produce simple sounds, she has yet to say any words in Canine, thus preventing me from communicating with her directly.)
Alas, though the weather cooperated, I must report that the effort was wasted. Intelligent though she appears, my servant continually failed to comprehend my commands. In particular, whenever I picked up the green disc and carried it to a new location, it always took her a few moments to understand that she was to come over, pick it up, and bring it to me. Not only that, but she persisted in
throwing the disc in my general direction, forcing me to jump or to run so as not to lose it altogether. (To be honest, I enjoyed the exercise, but it would be unseemly for me to acknowledge it to anyone outside of this forum.)
I did notice, in the course of the afternoon, that various beings of the same species as my servant stopped to observe me through the fence around the park. Two in particular appeared interested in our movements, and I wish I had a means of contacting them. Although they were somewhat shorter than my current servant, they appeared intelligent enough. If it were not for the great distance between us and the likelihood of their not understanding Canine, I would have offered them positions on the spot.
