Tsunami-surviving hippo in Kenya seeks solace in a century-old tortoise

"After it was swept and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatised. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together."

Click the link - the pictures are terrific!

Just tell him it's a new breed of pot-bellied pig, the "wide snout pot belly," brand new from whatevercountrypotbelliedpigscomefrom. Then when it gets bigger, just sigh and say "that's what happens when they start new breeds..."

Re Tsunami-surviving hippo in Kenya seeks solace in a century-old tortoise

Remember these guys? There are two books out about them now, and they are SO cute together! Now there are two tortoises (Mzee had to go to the vet for two weeks with a cracked, infected shell, so Owen took up with another tortoise.) and they've just introduced Owen to another orphaned hippo named Cleo. Owen doesn't seem to know he's a hippo so they were afraid to try and stick him with an established herd.

And now, they have a blog!

Awwwwww!
