| | I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | OK, first off, MI does not have normal squirrels. Instead of the normal grey squirrels, they have these mutant red ones. (Personally, I think the grey ones are cuter, because the red ones always have a mangy-not-enough-hair thing going, but I digress.)
Now, in the area where I work, they have even more mutant looking BLACK squirrels. The rumor is that the university imported them for study, and some got loose. It's as good a reason as any other to explain them. I see them from time to time up where I work, but almost never near where I live.
This morning, though, I saw the mutant to beat all mutants, right outside my house. It was a black squirrel with a red tail. Cutest damn thing. I got a couple shots of it with the camera, if they come out at all I'll post them.

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | We have only the black squirrels in Windsor, although a few grey ones are showimng up lately. I miss red squirrels! When we moved here, I nearly had a wreck when I saw a black squirrel run accross the road in front of me, I thought someone had caught and dyed it.
I hope the photos turn out, I'd love to see the combo squirrel.

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | I want to see the photos! I love squirrels!
When I moved to Florida, I didn't think there were any squirrels here. Didn't see any for years - till I started this job. I was at my final interview - sitting in my bosses office when I looked out the window and in typical Worm fashion screamed out "Squirrel!!!" Boss thought I was nuts but hired me anyway. We have several squirrels that live here on our work property. Victor (our "pet" squirrel) is too cute for words. He comes to the door and asks for food. We always keep unroasted peanuts here for him. He is a doll! |

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | Actually, Eris, I think its just our city that has mutant squirrels. We had the normal gray ones back in Westland where I grew up.
But they are awfully cute, aren't they? Can't wait to see your pictures!

One of our member agencies is located on the grounds, running a residential treatment foster care program there.

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | There are black squirrels here...I thought they were only in Council Bluffs, the way people make such a fuss over them. There was someone a few months ago who got ticketed by the police for "worrying a black squirrel" (that was the EXACT charge)...he was siccing his dog on the squirrel. (Moron) When we go to the park and I see a black squirrel, I tell Rexy not to "worry" it!
Can't wait to see the picture of the mutant squirrel, Eris...I think squirrels are cute, out here in the sticks we mainly have the squashed version of the brownish/greyish ones.

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | We have the occasional black squirrel here. They are more plentiful slightly north of here.
Otherwise, they're grey. No reds in these parts.

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | Around here we only get the grey squirrels. My brother, who's in Pittsburgh, sees grey, red and the very occasional black squirrel (which so far has evaded all attempts to take its picture). |

He's seen only red squirrels? But the black ones are all over campus--how has he missed them? Or is he in the category of local residents who boycott campus?

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | No, no. He simply counters my argument that the red squirrels are ugly mutants by saying that since red squirrels are what he's used to, red squirrels are normal, and grey squirrels are mutants.
We both agree that the black squirrels are mutants.
And we still have 12 shots left in the roll of film with the pretty mutant on it. Just waiting for the cats to do something funny...

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | Here are the white deer:
You've seen on the other article that there are albino squirrels there (the deer are not albino), but when looking for a pic of the deer, I'm now finding articles about albino seagulls and cave toads around Ithaca as well! |

| | Re I saw the coolest thing this morning... | | Being that seagulls are already white, how can you tell an albino one?
Please don't knock yourself out trying to find more links for my sake. I'm still not going to buy the secret-nuclear-conspiracy theory anyway.
