| | Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | Ok - I know that animals mark their territory, but this is ridiculous!!!
As you know, Birdie hates the Beast and has been less than active since he showed up. Many times she hid under our bed, and then snuck into the bathroom to do her business on the floor. She hangs out on the kitchen chair a lot, and if the Beast is within her line of sight, would pee or poop on the floor rather than risk passing him on the way to the box.
She's been a bit better. This weekend, she hung out on the bed all weekend, and really snuggled with me. I was so delighted to see her acting normal and appearing so relaxed.
So - Sat night we stayed up way too late. I woke in the morning, and then went back and slept for another 2 hours. When I got back up, I went into the bathroom, and found the poor Beast locked in the Water Closet. I asked Brian if he meant to lock him up, and apparently the Beast went in on his own, pushed the door closed and locked himself in. He peed on the floor, but there is no way of knowing how long he was in there, and I felt so bad about that.
So, this morning, I get up and the Beast is in the water closet. The door is closed, but not latched, so he should have been able to open it with his paw. There was a little pee on the floor. Not enough to be the result of a full bladder. Just enough to say, "mine mine mine - this room is mine, and you, Birdie, will not pee here"

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | Except, of course, if one cat pees there to stake a claim, the other cat(s) will pee there to reinforce their own claim.
I was always convinced that having two cats was better than having just one, but now I'm not so sure. Neko-chan has not peed or anything else outside the box since Kushi has disappeared and she apparently was not the big pooper. She does have people around her all day so she's not lonely. She's gotten more assertive about food now that Kushi isn't around to do it for her. And, since Kushi isn't bogarting all the lap time, she's become a lap kitty practically over night.

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | That's great for Neko-chan, but I'm sorry that Kushi hasn't come home.
We love all three cats, but let me say that three cats are a LOT messier than 2. It's impossible to keep up!!!
The Beast is huge and can't maneuver in the litter box. He gets in - can't turn around so just backs up and pees - right over the box and onto the floor.
I bought a huge rubber made tub last night. Brian is going to cut a "door" into it and we're going to try that as a litter box. Beast will have room to maneuver, and there will be less stuff kicked out or shot over the edge because we'll leave the walls high. I hope this works. |

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | Oh no, Naomi- what happened to Kushi?
And Delia, brilliant idea about the Rubbermaid tub. There may be one of those in our future. My baby Siamese, who is about as big as a string and two twigs, still manages to hang out sometiems when using the downstairs litter box.

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | The occasionally hanging the butt over the edge is gross, but I can deal with it. The constant litter on the floor in front of the box thing makes me CRAZY!! I've tried rugs, the fake grass sort of mat, a platic backed litter matt, and a plastic grill to catch the litter. The fabric doesn't help because it doesn't trap it. The fake grass doesn't help because they don't like the feel under their paws so they jump over it and kick more stuff all over, the plastic grill would be fabulous, but it's too small.
I HATE stepping in litter on the floor! Hate it hate it hate it.
Tonight we try the rubbermaid. I how we can cut it to fit. I keep the boxes under the laundry room sink in a cabinet - I removed the doors. |

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | this is why I LOVE our covered litter box! But I'm betting that Beast is so big he wouldn't fit in one right?
I'd recommend a subscription to the local paper-for the floor of the water closet

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | That's the problem - he didn't fit in the covered box and his butt hung over the edge of the open one. He's really large.
I cut the rubbermaid thing. High sides - a piece taken out of the back so it fits under the sink, and a nice dome shaped "door". When Brian gets home I'll let him QA it and then I'll let you know how it goes.
Wish me luck! |

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | Cindy - Kushi sneaked out of the house two and a half weeks ago. I didn't realize it until the next morning. She has not shown up since. I alerted the vets in the area, animal control and the AKC (she's microchipped), but nothing has come up. We even asked around the neighborhood, announced it at the association meeting, and posted signs.

I'm betting that Birdie actually locked him in the water closet. | Could you blame her? The last few days she's been hanging out in the bed and been very snuggly. When she sees The Beast she goes under the bed. Last night, we were trying to sleep and she was under the bed. Beast managed to squeeze his massive body under the bed too. It was loud.
The big litter box seems to be working, but Beast has managed to dribble on the plastic litter catcher twice. I don't know if his butt hangs out (that would be something to see) of if he's just peeing in front of the box. It's just a dribble though. He's either doing it on purpose or has a UTI. Kitty angst.
Naomi - I'm so sorry that Kushi hasn't come home. |

I'm so sorry, Naomi. I'm crossing my fingers for her safe return.

| | Re Mine Mine, it's all mine! | | Oh Naomi, that is so sad! I feel like a part of my family has gone missing, I think the demi-goddesses have been here as long as you. I hope that somehow Kushi will come home.
