| | Worried Mama... | | One of my kitties is not acting herself. I think she is ill, and won't be able to swing the vet right away - will be forced to wait until midweek for customer checks to clear (learned the hard way about assuming customer checks wouldn't ever bounce...).
Both cats, sisters, are 13 years old - they have been with me through countless states, cities, houses, previous boyfriends, etc. They act much younger, but are getting older, and I'm very sad that this one is showing signs of age (lost some teeth and whatnot - her sister the junk food junkie has all of her teeth still, of course ).
Lucy (yes, the other cat is Ethel) has been curled in a hot little ball on the bed for 48 hours. Not eating, not drinking. I finally carried her to water spiked with tuna drippings from a sandwich I was making honey for tomorrow, and she did halfheartedly lap some up, but she isn't purring, not doing her "pay attention to me MORE" little tricks like rolling around under foot, etc.
Very bummed.
Even the dogs are watching over her - they are 9 years old, and she raised them - she eats first, drinks first, etc. They have been at a loss that the kitty hasn't asserted her place in the food chain in so long, and are camped out under her spot on the bed, periodically sniffing at her and giving her concerned doggie licks.
Her sister Ethel has been partolling the house as per usual and frequently coming back to lay next to her and groom her, etc.
 I hope she is ok! |

| | I hope she feels better soon! Mine's 14 and just as doofy as ever.
I'm having a hard time imagining Rotties hovering over a kitty, though!

| | It's very cute - they are very concerned that their "mama" cat is not feeling good. |

| | I don't know that you should wait until mid-week - things can progress pretty quickly, especially with older cats. (((Lucy and Mama)))

| | I hear you, believe me, we are trying to figure out if the "emergency fund" (which has been hit quite frequently of late for various unexpected items) is enough - I have to call the vet tomorrow. He is a really nice man, not much older than we are, and is hands down the BEST vet I've ever had. Knowing him he'll suggest a payment plan if she requires testing or other expensive treatment, but I don't assume on that kind of thing. |

| | Yes, I'd get her in as quickly as possible, Leslie.
How's she doing this a.m.?

| | Actually she's much better today. I thought about ways to get her to eat, then realized how long it's been since she's really finished her food at all - coincides with her loss of teeth (she has a couple of small back teeth - she lost the two big pointy ones in front over the last two weeks or so). So I set up a special eating area for her away from the dogs and her sister where I can leave soft food out just for her all day - it's working well. She's able to go eat a little at a time, and is perking up nicely.
I'm still taking her to the vet as a precaution, but the change is remarkable. I didn't realize how slow she'd become at eating, so apparently she just needs to be able to take her time. I'm hoping the vet can recommend supplements to help her - I'd like her to get her energy levels back from a few weeks ago.
She's slowly getting back to her affectionate self today - YAY.
Of course the dogs and her sister are a little disappointed - the dogs look forward to "snacking" on leftover cat food when the cats finish eating, but that won't happen any more. I'll just have to buy more Pigs Ears.... |

| | I'm glad your kitty is doing better--reading through the posts, I was so relieved.
Without Kushi around Neko-chan leaves her food in her bowl and munches throughout the day--much healthier for her and that way she gets all of her thyroid medicine as well.

| | Leslie, I'm so happy that your mama kitty is better. Those little rotties need a mom to keep them in line. Keep us all updated.

| | Lucy continues to improve, though she will be going to the vet later in the week regardless after our little scare. A few days of fluids and squishy food, not to mention lots of people love and rottie care, seem to have done wonders. She is at this moment under foot meowling up at me because I don't have her in my lap right now |

I hope the vet can help with suggestions on how to get Lucy's energy back.
Cuddles for Lucy!
