Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, I get a kitten!
This lady has a few, a set of twins, a runt, and another one.
She is giving them away free, because she doesn't want to make a profit off of them.
So I get one, they are four weeks old, and by the sounds of it extremely adorable. Val, (the lady who lives in the house with us, and her husband and two kids.) she gave us Debs phone number. Which is odd, because she is allergic to cats, and her and I used not get alone at all. Maybe this shows she is trying to friends. My husband told me two weeks ago that she wanted to be friends again. But I am terribly stubborn, and dont want to give in.
But back to kitten, I am so excited, I was told that I should go and get a puppy/dog, to help add years back to my life. My husband doesnt want a dog yet, and he wanted a cat instead so I suppose it is a good subsitute!
Sadly, I have to box up my air-bed, and use an actual bed,
but I think it is a decent trade-off. The actual bed part is interesting too, because Val offered it to us, because other wise it would just sit in the basement or garage, and not be used. So maybe things are looking up.
(so far)

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay on the kitten...but you aren't getting it yet, are you? 4 weeks is awfully early to be taking it away from mom. Usually 8 weeks is when ours are fully weaned and ready for new homes.

That's very exciting however. Pets are a WONDERFUL addition to the family.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

More good news: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband last night while we talked about it only wanted one.
However, the lady (Deb), doesn't want to seperate the twins,
and wants them to go to the same home. So he called just called me to tell me that he wanted to get the twins.
So there are two new additions to the family. I couldn't be happier then now, these past 24 hours, and the upcoming hours are good.
They are already weened from their mother, and are eating kitten food. And venturing about to ever where they can go. They already climb the gate that was put in front of where they stayed with their mother. So nothing could get in our out. But I geuss the out part has been comprimised.
On additional thought, I am on talking terms with my dad! I think my ability to talk with my mom will take just a bit more time, but I suppose this is progress.
Oh and we are getting the kittens tonight I geuss.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would pictures here but I cant. I have no way to put them on the computer. I haven't even seen them yet. I cant wait to though.
My husband was just asking about what we would name them, since one is a girl and one is a boy.
he wants to name the girl: Haley
and the boy: Superman
I told him that we would have to see. he replied 'you suck'
I explained that I want to wait and actually see the kittens. And that would help determine what their name should be.

Okay, so we have the kittens. They are ultra-adorable. They are both grayish and black. Except the male's tip of his tail is white! This is the only way we could them apart. It is sad though, we can not think of what to name him. Except maybe Ash, because he looks like he just crawled out of the fireplace!
He is very calm and sedate, while Haley is wild and very playful. I am so glad we have them because I know that they have each other to play with, and since the heater doesn't work, it is a good thing that they entertwine themselves into a little ball of fur when they go to sleep. They just figured out how to get on the bed which is good, because it is warmer up there then the spot they picked out to sleep. The two would climb up nestle into the blankets and nap. Madison the little girl that lives with us, loves them. She used to call them "doggy" but know she is starting to say "Titty" which is better but she can't pronounce the "k" sound yet.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 weeks is very, very young for kittens to be away from their mother. I hope there are not any long term health and behavioral problems because of it.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well thank you for your concerns, and I will keep that in mind in the future. However at this time they are doing well. Very well actually, we thought that they might have a little trouble adjusting and all. But they act as though nothing has changed. However, I am glad we got to them when we did. If we hadn't the lady was going to to take them to one of the SPCAs or the clinic near here. And those places don't keep the animals around for very long. Taken to a home or otherwise.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

soft foods, the lady said that she was giving them hard foods already, but I think it is too soon. Val said the lady told she fed them hard foods so they didn't smell as bad? Which is ridiculus because they don't smell any different, and they like the food just fine.
Hell we potty-trained them over the weekend, and no problems...

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Potty training kittens is a piece of cake...it's like a natural instinct if they have a litter box!

Moist (canned) cat food is better than hard at this point...their little digestive systems just can't handle it, and I did read that they get moisture (i.e., water) from the canned, because they may not drink a lot of water at this point yet.

Sorry, Christine, I am glad they are doing well, but I still think they were taken from their mother by the former owner too soon.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got Ben when he was five weeks, and never had any problems -- he joined a three-month-old kitten and 15-year-old cat. (Who used to retire to the bedroom with eyeshades and a cold compress.)

And now,71+ years later, he still manages to disappear in a completely empty room.

Re Things are looking up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update:
The kittens seem to own the bedroom. They have two sleeping areas:
1. Under the corner at the end of the bed on a blanket.
2. On the bed.
Number 2 is good because when I got home yesterday morning after work, and climbed in bed, they kept me company and warm. And vice verse!
They are doing really well. They have there own eating area, and litter box place.
