| | I think I just officially became a crazy cat lady.
I just left the boys a message on the answering machine. That's over the top, right? |

| | Re I think it's official. | | I once had a cat who gave birth and had to be in a room with the kittens all day, separate from the other cats, and she hated it. That was also the room with the answering machine, so I would call her a few times a day to reassure her. Don't know that it worked though - Hubby says when I call the house and talk into the answering machine, none of the three cats does as much as twitch an ear.
Hubby called Princess several times when we went on vacation for a week last year.

| | Re I think it's official. | | Yup. Don't use voice mail because I don't particularly care if I get most of my messages immediately, or can access wherever I am, and the answering machine serves as a call screener at the same time. Plus I already have the equipment, had it since before voice mail etc. became available, and don't see a reason to throw out a perfectly good answering machine.
Not everyone is interested in being modern in all things

| | Re I think it's official. | | LOL. I got sick of buying answering machines. Ours always died after about four months (I don't know WHAT we do to them) and I decided that the all-in-one voice mail was cheaper than replacing answering machines. I don't think we've had a machine in about 6 or 7 years.
And we use caller ID to screen. |

| | Re I think it's official. | | I have the answering machine AND voice mail. Got the all in one answering machine with the new phones. Great for screening unknown numbers. And the voice mail is really only useful when I'm on the phone and don't want to get the call waiting. |

| | Re I think it's official. | | I prefer using the answering machine to screen. Some friends' numbers are blocked by caller ID, and some friends/relatives I only want to talk to in certain circumstances. It started when the group home staff used to call me on weekends. If they left the message "Call us right away because we don't know what Tamara's appointment is for tomorrow afternoon," that was one thing; if they left the message "Call us right away, two of the girls got arrested," that was another and I'd pick up. Caller ID don't tell you that So I still use the answering machine I bought 10 years ago, and the corded phone I bought for $10 at a liquidator store in 1993. I don't replace something until it's totally dead or the benefits of a new one vastly outweigh what I've got. (aka "being cheap" )

| | Re I think it's official. | | I will always have a corded phone in my house unless we get rich enough to go the all cell phone route - when the power goes out, so do the cordless phones!
(And when your mother is trying to talk to you after a hurricane has blown through, that is A Bad Thing!)

| | Re I think it's official. | | Hell, I'll keep a corded phone anyway. Eventually the cell phone battery dies. Plus I like knowing when I'm giving someone my bank account number that the neighbor's baby monitor isn't picking up the info.

| | Re I think it's official. | | If I had cats, I'd call and talk to them sometimes.
I assumed everyone with pets did stuff like that. Maybe I'm not clear where the line is. I've seen people kiss their pets; calling them on the phone seems to me to be a lot less strange. |
