THIS IS A TELECOMMUTING POSITION..
Our mission is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. We offer national programs in humane education, public awareness, government advocacy, shelter support, and animal medical services and placement. Our New York City headquarters houses a full-service animal hospital, behavior center, adoption facility, and Humane Law Enforcement Department. We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.
Responsibilities:
• Proofreads and, if necessary, develops copy for weekly Advocacy Digest; will work with Legislative Services, Government Affairs & Public Policy, web editor and designer to coordinate mailing of this weekly digest.
• Edits federal and state Advocacy Alerts for posting on website.
• Edits all outgoing Urgent Alerts.
• Works with Legislative Services, Government Affairs & Public Policy, and web editor to develop static content for Lobby section of ASPCA.org.
• Will work with web editor and other departments to create content for Equine Program section of website, as well as content for our other program areas.
Qualifications:
• Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills. (Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style a plus.)
• Ability to work on deadlines.
• Ability to work cooperatively with various departments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word.
• Working knowledge of Internet resources.
Years of Experience:
2 to 3 years editing/writing experience at an online or print publication.
Background:
Background in a consumer publication is a plus, as is an active interest in equines and/or the legislative process.
Level of Education:
College degree or higher, with emphasis in Journalism, Communications, English or Creative Writing.
