| | ...through absolutely no fault of his own. Stupid $%#@!!! Siamese, anyhow! Grumble.
I heard him coughing in the kitchen. He coughed and coughed, but then, he always does that. usually, he brings up a meatball, or a huge chunk of cookie, or once, a sideways pretzel stick. We usually leave him to it and clean up whatever afterward. See, he doesn't chew. Never. He gags on dry dogfood because the chunks are too big. He gags on catfood because he gulps it whole. The vet told us that occasionally, a cat will do that, and there's nothing you can do to change their minds.
Tonight, he coughed for longer than usual, but finally stopped. I went into the kitchen about then to stir the spghetti sauce, and saw Moo sitting hunched over, foam all over his mouth and he looked like he was coughing or gagging, but there was no sound. He hunched farther and further down, and more and more foam came out of his mouth. I yelled for #2, who helpfully said,"Ewww! He's drooling!" and called for #1 to help clean it up.
#1 came running in, saw Moodles, who was by this time slumped over till his head was touching the kitchen floor, still foaming but otherwise not making a sound. #1 said,"OMG, he's choking to death!", scooped up the Moo, placed him over his forearm and whacked his back. Nothing, so he put him down on the floor, found his belly, and pushed really hard twice.
Moody coughed and gagged really loudly, and a whole slice of roast beef fell out! This was about 3" by 4"- a big thick slice, and the darned cat swallowed the entire thing. Partway. Moody panted and gasped for a minute or so, then got up, shook himself and groomed his paw. He glared at #1, then strolled out of the kitchen as if nothing had ever happened.
If the kids don't make me age prematurely, the cats will. My heart was pounding for an hour afterward. |

| | Re Moody is still alive... | | You have no idea. After he was ok, he tried to grab the piece of meat as we scooped it up. Sort of disproves intelligent design, doesn't it? |

| | Re Moody is still alive... | | He's following #1 around this morning, just gazing at him and purring. Maybe he really did realize that he was in deep trouble. Poor silly kitty who needs smacking. We're too busy kissing him right now to smack him.
And Delia, you're right. Ropa vieja from now on! |

| | Re Moody is still alive... | | Does the behavior have a genetic cause, or is it one of those oddball behaviors Moody picked up over time?
(Piper's tail-in-the-mouth and turning circles on the fence had everyone stumped) |

| | Re Moody is still alive... | | He did it from the day he came home from the breeder. He also sucks on his tail when he's sad - in other words, all day today. He's a Siamese, and apparently many Siamese do the food swalloing thing. He has only one eye, is in charge of the dogs, and really is not a cat at all - especially according to the other cats. | | |
