| | Thanks for posting this MJ. We don't use the moist packets, but it's so sad that it's already killed so many pets.

| | meant to post this here last night but didn't have the list yet.
Thanks for posting MJ. I was really scared because we've used dry, canned and pouches, but we're ok. They say that the effects are rather immediate. Those poor animal parents - you buy good food and then this! |

| | I've only used dry until Astro's recent thyroid problem - he lost a lot of weight and I wanted to bulk him up again. I would have felt like the Worst Kitty Mommy Ever if the food I bought him as a special treat and to make him healthier wound up giving him kidney failure
My brand/style/flavor is on the list, but a different lot number.

| | Glad I a) read this yesterday and b) don't buy Walmart's Special Kitty. Was there today for a vacuum, noticed the shelves still FULL of it, mentioned it to the manager. He said he wasn't concerned and would leave the product on the shelf. So as I tooled around the store dragging my cart behind me, I kept tapping strangers with SK in their cart on the shoulder and telling them I'd heard about this recall on the internet blah blah blah and they should take a look at the lot/type list online when they get home. |

I'd be calling the store manager, and if that eejit WAS the store manager, I'd be calling the district office. They cannot keep recalled product on the shelves.

| | I don't understand how rat poison could get in the food unless it was deliberate. and that just is beyond understanding

| | It's not a US rat poison, it's one that's used in China. It might have been used to keep the rats off the wheat and cross-contaminated.

53 brands of dog food.
All made in the same place. It certainly makes one question 'brand loyalty'.
I do, however, commend the company Menu Foods for its response to the incident, including: Quote:
3. Who is going to pay my vet bills for sickness and death?
If Menu Foods product is the cause of sickness or death, Menu Foods will take responsibility. Menu has engaged a professional firm to manage your concerns and is currently contacting concerned pet owners who have reached our call center. Specific direction will be received from these individuals. Please keep copies of all your vet records and receipts for pet food purchases as well as vet bills. |

In a news conference, FDA officials said that the apparently melamine-contaminated wheat gluten also was shipped to a company that manufactures dry pet food, but they would not name the company.
| I was hoping we were safe b/c we only use dry food, but now who knows.

| | I love that blogger. It is so hard to get any useful info- each petfood website directs you to the Menu press releases, which are not at all useful. Iams wants to distance itself from Menu more than it wants to provide info to its customers.
I did find that Whiskas moist food and Goodlife REcipe dry are not affected by the recalls in any way. I may have to point this out to the nice folks at Iams. |

| | Huh. I was coming here to post the opposite - Iams had a full-page ad in today's NYTimes detailing its phone lines for customers and dedicated phone line for vets, which I thought was great. It also reassured people about the safety of its dry food (not made by Menu Foods) - distancing themself, yes, but that's exactly the info I needed because I need to buy dry cat food this weekend.
