| | Tater Tot | | My poor Tater is having a bad time again.
Sunday night he peed on our bed. He hasn't done that in ages, and only when Scooter is being a jerk. Today he piddled on the floor when Scooter went for him.
He was sitting on our laps, and he really smelled like he had a stinky butt. I went to get some aloe wipes to clean the hind quarters, when Brian found the problem. He's got a big deep puncture wound on his back. It must be infected because it's somewhat oozy and stinks like you couldn't believe.
I feel so horrible! It must really hurt!
Brian will take him to the vet in the morning. We cleaned it with aloe and he didn't fuss, and we wiped it with hydrogen peroxide and he didn't make too much of a fuss, but it must be bad.
Looking at it made me nauseated - literally - he has a big hole in his back!
There is only one wound, but it must be a bite - it's too big and deep to be from a claw. I'm sure the vet will give him a shot and then we'll have to give him pills, and hopefully it will be ok, but the poor thing can't be feeling well. He's acting fairly normal and he's being so good, but the fact that he's peeing out of the box is a sign that he's not ok, and the hole and the stench has me really worried and sick. |

| | I read an article that makes me feel better.
The drainage and the smell are signs of infection, but he's acting ok, so that means its not too bad yet. I hope a shot is all he needs to clear this up, but I'll feel better after he sees the vet. |

| | He'll probably get a nice dose of antibiotic from the doc and be alright again in a bit. When the horses get hurt, Dan has to give them a regim of pennicillan over a period of several days - I hate the thought of Tater having to go through that much, but I want him better! to Tater, Wormie and Brian! to Scooter.

| | He's ok. The puncture is pretty deep, but when we cleaned it yesterday the scab came off so must of the stinky ick oozed out. That's good. The vet didn't have to lance it.
They did shave his rump (poor baby) and gave him a shot and we have antibiotics. I hope he'll take them without too much of a fight. It's hard to give him pills. And when he came home he threw up twice. I hope his belly can handle the meds. |

| | They didn't give him liquid antibiotics? I found it wasn't too excruciating to give the liquid to Princess. Once we dragged her out from behind the couch or in the litter box or under the desk or clinging to the ceiling.

She gave Brian a pill gun so hopefully it'll be ok.
Tate is great at spilling out the liquid meds. |

| | Oh Wormie-I hope he's okay
Years ago, when Jezabelle was a young cat, she got a bur(one of those horrible three sided ones) caught and it got infected, it looked like a bite but it wasn't. We didn't realize anything was wrong until we found her hiding behind the microwave. Then we found the infected bur cut.
Poor Tater Tot deserves a break.

| | He'll be fine.
The infection isn't making him sick. I think that we found it on time - When Brian cleaned it the scab came off and that let all the ick out. He's not running a fever. The vet want us to keep the scab from forming. That's Brian's job - I can't look at the hole - it makes me physically sick.
The first pilling didn't go very well, but we got it down. |

Tater is in the hospital.
We had to take him to the ER tonight.
He was very very lethargic and not acting like himself. Didn't eat or drink - just sleeping. Not even purring. He felt warm to me and I was afraid he had fever, and Brian was concerned that his behavior is so off.
He had a 104.6 fever! They kept him overnight to give him fluids and anti-biotics. It's really strange that he had no fever when we brought him in for the absess, but that after starting meds he spiked a really high fever. The infection is still oozing, he seems to be getting another upper respiratory infection, and we're not sure if he has a bladder infection.
I'm so sad. |

I'm so sorry, sweetie. I remember how sad and scared I was when we had to leave Josey overnight in the ER last month, but after some intensive treatment she got alot better. They'll take good care of him. Sending all good wishes your way for little Tater.
