| | Yesterday morning, Poe had a little bit of gunk in her left eye, so I gave her the Polysporin drops the vet gave us. She had a sticky eye before, so we had it in the house.
Last night after we got home from Helen's house, I couldn't find Poe. When we finally found her, the eye was a completely different colour than the other one, it looked like a cloudy film had covered the eye. The lid part was bright red, and sometimes it looked like something went ploating past in the clouded part. I nearly flipped.
WE called the emergency animal hospital and the vet said to get in there right away and that yes, it was something to worry about. So, they stained the eye to check for scratches but found nothing. She said that the outer layer is infected and swollen, the inner layer might be as well, and the inner lid is swollen. Poe was in so much pain, she actually scratched and bit me when we tried to look at it- she never does that. So, they put her in the kitty straight-jacket. Poor little thing.
Anyway, we have a really strong antibiotic drops, an oral antibiotic, oral pain meds, and steroid eye drops. And boy does Poe like to take medicine. Not. The vet is giving it until Sunday to look better, but if it isn't we have to go to the veterinary opthamologist in London, to the same guy who took care of Libby's eyes a couple of years back. I hope we don't have to take her there. Keep your fingers crossed that all of these meds will fix my baby Poe. |

| | Delia, the vet thought it might be from a scratch, but she wasn't sure because the eye was too swollen to see much. When we took her in, the actual eyeball was buling out from the swelling. So far, not much change but I am still hopeful. She still wants to have a nice cuddle, though, I think that must be a good sign. |

| | That means she feels better. I'm thinking she must have a scratch for such a bad infection to develop so fast. Hope the swelling goes down fast!!! |

| | Well, we just got back home from the vet again. She thinks Poe's eye looks better, so we'll keep on with the meds. She also said something sort of worrying - that if it happens once, we can assume it was a scratch or little piece of dirt in the eye. If it ever happens again, though, then it's time for all sorts of bloodwork, that it can be a sign of something systemic. She wouldn't say what- she said it isn't worth worrying about now. I say, why waste a perfectly good opportunity to worry?
Anyway, Poe did walk around a little today, although she still slept nearly all day long. However, you'll be happy to know that if you bite a screaming Woot monkey at 3 a.m., it screams. Loudly. |

| | #4 put it on my pillow to make me feel better about Poe, he thought I'd like to sleep with it.
And omg, the boys have had so much fun launching it outside- those really go far!. Of course, I managed to give myself a black eye with the darned thing the first day we got it. I was trying to figure out how to use it, pulled on the arms, and #1 walked in just in time to yell "Not like that!" before I let go and the monkey screamed right into my eye. I hate technology. |

| | Poe must be feeling better. Before her eye infection she liked to lay on the top shelf of the cat tree with her head hanging upside down over the edge. She began doing that again today, which is when we noticed that she'd stopped doing it before. So, I am thinking that her eye doesn't hurt as much as it did. Poor little thing. Oh, and she dropped on top of Dixie when she walked under the cat tree, so I think things are getting back to normal. |
