Well, never.

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | If Stranger doesn't eat me in my sleep, the boyfriend's gonna kill me when he comes over.
See, I came home from work today, and there was Marmel outside. So I went over to say hi. And he actually let me get close. So I hunkered down. And he came right over and let me start petting him. He was just rubbin' and purrin' away... and then he rolled over. And I realized he was a she. Heh.
So then the nice lady from next door came over, and we were talking, and Marmel was getting pettin's and she pointed out how nice Marmel was, and that she really wanted to take her in, but couldn't and I said I couldn't and we agreed it was really sad...
And the the boyfriend stopped by on his way home from work. And we all agreed about how nice Marmel is, and how sad it is that Marmel doesn't have a home, with winter coming and all...
And then the boyfriend left, and apparently my senses did too, because the next thing I knew, I'd picked up Marmel, and said I was gonna take her, and the nice lady from next door, who I now realize has mind control powers, said I was a wonderful person. And we hugged.
There was less hugging once I brought Marmel in the house. Stranger has been leading the hostilities for the most part. Pixie's just kind of in shock about the whole thing. Marmel's been mostly hanging out under the box tent in the picture. I've actually gotten to the point where I can give all of them pettin's, as long as I make sure to move slowly and say their names a lot when I move toward them.
I checked, the Humane Society will do the fixing and the shots for $85.00, which isn't too bad. And hey, I've got all this overtime pay coming to me. What was I gonna do with it anyway? Just spend it on beads.
All I can do right now is pray that I'm doing the RIGHT thing. For all five of us.

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | *laugh* OH boy! Things are about to get exciting again in your house.
The real reason is that you were lacking for sufficient amounts of chaos, wasn't it?

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | Yeah, not enough chaos.
The boyfriend'll buy that, won't he?
I mean, we TALKED about this. Over and over. And agreed. And then instead of doing what we agreed to do, I went and took in another cat.
He's gonna hate me.

What you NEED to do is approach your boss about a raise so you can have a larger apartment, because things are getting crowded......

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | Fortunately, Marmel seems perfectly happy hanging out under the sock drawer, with the box tent pulled up close. She's got her food and water there, and my two old workshirts (fortunately, I got new ones today). The other two are alternating between giving me wounded looks, lounging assertively, and sitting outside Fort Marmel making those bizarre Cat. Not. HAPPY. noises.
In other words, everyone's adapting much better than I hoped.

Yay, Ms. marmel! Pixie and Stranger needed a sister. The Three Muskateers! Ok, maybe the Three Stooges. Or The Unholy Trinity(#4's suggestion). |

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | Well, we're all still alive. And we're actually doing pretty good. The boyfriend doesn't hate me. He thinks I'm insane, but he doesn't hate me. Fortunately, he really likes Marmel. And Marmel likes him, too. Marmel has definately been putting in more appearances since he came over. Which is good, because I was seriously starting to wonder about the condition of her bladder.
I put her in the bathroom with the litter box while I was sleeping. She seemed pretty OK when I got up. I'll probably do the same today. I've also been letting the two older ones spend some time roaming the building's hallway, to give Marmel some time alone in the apartment.
She's been wormed and I've put the flea stuff on all three of them.

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | And, oh, god, she's totally glomming all over the boyfriend now. And the other two are viewing this development with horror.
(The best one so far was when Marmel was getting pettin's from me, and Pixie and Stranger were really close, and started growling at her... and then noticed they were next to each other and growling, and started growling at each other, while Marmel just flopped on me.)

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | Maybe Stranger and Pixie will finally bond!
Just as long as they don't bond together against the new girl!
Of course, you know what that means. The only way to get the *three* of them to bond later will be to......

| | Re Oh, here we go again... | | Well, she's a smart girl. Already figuring out words. Knows her name. She's spending most of her time napping in the closet, but she will come out when she's called. The other girls are mostly pretending she doesn't exist anymore when she's in the closet. Pixie got aggressive with her this evening for leaving the closet... actually ran up and hissed and whacked at her. I think Pixie's getting over the shock of the whole situation. But then this morning, Stranger creeped up close enough to Marmel to sniff her... with no growling or hissing or whacking at all.
So, everything's going a lot smoother than I'd hoped for. I think this experience is helping Pixie and Stranger bond though... I caught them playing together this morning.
