| | Good wishes etc., please? | | Moody hasn't been well for a couple of weeks, but we took him to the vet and we got a bunch of stuff for him - antibiotics, prednisone etc. He seemed to improve a little at first, but by Thursday when I was getting ready to leave, he sounded a little worse.
Well, today #1 called me. He and the boys took Moo to the emergency vet clinic. The poor little guy was throwing up and is doing this weird head movement, tilting his head to one side, motioning with his paw in that direction etc. They weighed him, and he's lost two pounds in two weeks. This is a skinny cat who didn't have an extra two pounds to lose.
The vet told #1 that either Moo has a tumour in his brain or spine, or that he has a serious infection or has been poisoned with a neurotoxin of some sort. I'm not at home so I didn't get the entire story from the vet. All I know is that Moodles is really a sick kitty. He's also #2's best friend, and I am really having a hard time dealing with this. I hope that my own vet will have a good idea when he returns on Tuesday, but I'm afraid that Moody may not pull through this. Keep him (and #2) in your prayers and thoughts, please? |

I hope that there's a way to treat his injury, whether it's a tumor, a virus, or a poison.
Hugs and prayers for Moody and your family. |

| | Re Good wishes etc., please? | | Good news! Cindy's breeder says Moody and other Siamese cats need high-protein, low-fiber diets more than other breeds of cats or they start to suffer neurological effects like what #1 described. Some of the symptoms he's had for a couple weeks supported what the breeder was saying about Siamese probelms. Cindy is travelling home and asked everyone to be optimistic that the hamburgers the Horsemen are making for Moody help put him back on track

| | Re Good wishes etc., please? | | I just got back from the vet. Last night I came in and promptly flipped. Moody was hopping on his tiptoes, kept falling over and bumping into things, and his poor head tiled to one side. #1 had to hold him in order to let him drink, otherwise he'd get his head submerged in the water- too scary.
This morning, he was a bit more active, but the head- his left ear is straight down, right ear pointing up. His neck is curved around so that his chin is digging into his right shoulder. It looks just awful.
The vet took one look and diagnosed extreme vertigo, which is sort of good. Better than anything else- no neurotoxin is suspected. His one good eye does this rapid shaking back and forth horizontally, but it is once again reactive to light, movement and touch. His tongue isn't working properly - he can't scoop water correctly and food is sticking to one corner of his throat. He's a stinky little boy this morning, because grooming is obviously difficult. However, he's trying. His appetite is better than on Saturday, he's not severely dehydrated, and he's curious and would like to play once again.
Right now he's still at the vet. Our vet is going to get a consult with a veterinary neurologist and do more bloodwork. His best guess so far is that it is some sort of vestibular disorder. Whether it's due to a virus, a tumour or a degenerative neurological disorder is anybody's guess at the moment. But at least we aren't talking about having him put down, a huge relief for all of us. Apparently the ER vet #1 took Moodles to on Saturday said that his thought was that Moo would need to be put down sometime this week. So, I am really hopeful once more that Moo will be flipping bacon in the very near future. |

| | Re Good wishes etc., please? | | right now, hes sleeping on my arm, wrapped in a towel. i m typing one-handed, so no caps.
he came home from the vet at 6, ate a bowl of canned food mixed with water, and then tried to play with dixie. moo fell over but at least wanted to play. then, he wanted to sit on my lap. however, if he can look at something he cant walk toward iy because of how his head is pointing. finally after looking at me and then walking away from me two or three times, moo had a complete meltdown and just howled. i wrapped him in a towel becuse he drools and am holding my drooly little boy. we will know more tomorrow when the first round of blood test results comes back. |
