Dog Issue...

My dog, who lives with my parents, had a cough at Christmas. He was put on antibiotics for several weeks. My dad was giving him the antibiotics in cheese, which made the dog really fat, and wasn't the healthiest thing. But the dog took his medicine, which was good. When he was still on the meds, he had to go potty hourly, even in the middle of the night. He had some accidents in the house on the days where no one was home for hours.

Now he's been off the meds for a while, but he's still having the problem.

Is it possible that like a human, the antibiotic killed the good flora in his gut? Can you feed dogs yogurt?

My parents didn't think of the antibiotic... flora... bowel issue... problem. They thought he was eating too many treats (he was!) and the dog is on a diet now, only getting his dog food. I'm glad about that. My dog was such a barrell when I saw him at Christmas!

Yup. Had that with Dino (the cat). Did they mention the problem to the vet?

Nope, they didn't. I suggested they do it, but, I can't promise they will. They've taken him off all treats, and they think he's better now because of being off treats. I'm not so convinced

Dino's pretty much resolved on its own once he'd been off the meds for a couple weeks but oy... his stomach used to be upset and he would cry before going to the litterbox --and we would cry when he was done. (PHEW)

Yes, give your dog plain yogurt, the really quality kind with beneficial bacteria. You can also give him acidophilus capsules mixed with hsi food, and digestive enzymes, too. That will hep. And yay that he is feeling better.
