| | I think they're house finches. Very pretty and sweet.
Found the camera, but the sun's at the wrong angle and it's washing out all the pictures right now.

| | I hope you can get pictures we have tons of little song birds in our yard-and squirels and raccons-who try to steal all the bird food.
we also get foxes and deer. The deer ate all the tulips.

| | I love seeing the birds come back each spring to build their nests. I have the Eastern Phoebe already, and I am looking forward to the Eastern Bluebirds who should be here soon.

| | WB, Katrinka!
I have nest too.
Today I was going out my patio and a yellow jacket got trapped between the screen door and the sliding door. I thought he was trapped anyway. But nope, he was just looking for a good place to build a nest. And apparently, he found one. I waited until he went to get more materials to build it up, and I knocked it off. Yuck. Scary creatures.
Bad enough Mr Garter snake was literally at my feet on my patio. Then Mr Yellow Jacket had to come set up shop in my house too. I'd rather have Melanie's nest! |

| | Oh, we haven't seen the ant family yet. I'll be on the look out. They came in through my bathroom (shares a wall with the neighbor's kitchen...) last year. The ant family is the worst house guest! How rude!
Mr Wasp is baaa-aack. He's trying to build a new nest. I wish I could have gotten the screen door 100% closed so he couldn't get back in there. Sigh. Thank god I had closed the sliding glass door, otherwise he'd probably be building his nest in my bedroom. |

| | We have babies! Four of them. They're so quiet - I would have thought that baby birds would be all "cheep-cheep-cheep" all the time. But these don't make a sound. Weird. We don't even know when they hatched because they've been so quiet. But they're obviously a few days old because of the mess around the edges of the nest, the amount of early feathers we can see on them, and how much Mama Bird has been away (to get food, apparently) lately.

| | Too fuzzy. The nest is tucked away on the outside corner of the deck posts, right up under the roof of the deck. The only way to get pics is to get right up close, and I don't have a camera (still or motion) with a good close-up function. I may be able to get some decent ones as they grow big enough to be seen all the time, when hopefully I can get pics without having to get so very close.

| | Finally!
House finch nests are disgusting - instead of the parent birds carting away the babies' droppings, they just let them pile up around the edge of the nest.

| | You don't want to know about the first 5 days for house finches. And probably a lot of other species as well.

| | My babies are flying! I haven't seen them fly, but both of the kids managed to catch a glimpse of them on Friday of one taking off. Well, probably two different ones, each of the kids spotted a flyer at different times.
