When Kareem was little, we had a rottweiler who thought she was the boy's mother. She would 'hug' him, and even spank him when she thought he was doing something unsafe. To 'spank', she would put her paws on his shoulders and forcefully sit him down.

During a bad blizzard, Bob and I let the kids jump off the porch roof and into the snow in the front yard ( a drop of about 3 feet and we were right there spotting the kids. Me from the roof, Bob from a chair in the yard) The dog would let Sarah do it, but when Kareem tried, she would fight her way up onto the deep snow, and drag him down to the safety of the sidewalk and then 'spank' him.

She also guarded over the baby next door. She was fine with the baby crawling, but when the baby started walking, the dog would sit her down.

That's great. The closest I have is Reggie attacking Baxter when Baxter is playing "too roughly" with the kids.

When we were kids, a neighbor's St. Bernard adopted one of my younger sisters. Mostly it was just herding behavior, but my sister ran in front of a car one day. The dog was out in front of her almost instantly. The driver didn't see my sister, but sure saw the dog -- neither was hit.
