Mimi's Day Out

Mimi and I went shopping today. I couldn't think of many places that allow dogs, so Mimi and I went to the few places that I knew I could bring her.

First was Home Depot. She rode in a cart for her first time. She was skiddish at first but got used to it. She met lots of people, and for the dog that used to cower behind anyone rather than be pet, she did really well. She let anyone pet her that wanted to, but she had little choice since she was in the cart.

Unfortunately, the cart had some old black paint on it. Actually, it turned out not to be paint after all... it was tar. And Mimi now has black spots where once she was only brown. Crap.

Next it was on to Tractor Supply. I figured that they would know what to wash her with to remove the tar. They had nothing that could be used on pets. I bought some doggie shampoo anyway, and hoped for the best. We also tried out one of almost every toy. There is no toy that holds Mimi's interest. Pig ears did, however, but I would NEVER touch one or have one in my house. All the bags of crappy dogfood interested her too, but I assured her she had much better food in the fridge at home, and off we went to check out.

Next it was Mimi's first bath with me. She's afraid of the tub already, so it wasn't easy to get her in, get her wet, and get her sudsy. All of those difficulties paled in comparison to rinsing her off, but alas, we did it. And then she jumped out and spread water all over the bathroom, but I can't be mad. It was stressful for her.

So that was Mimi's big day out. I'm on the couch recovering and she's in her crate recovering too. We're pooped.

Wait'll you have a kid. At least they're allowed to go anywhere you want.

As a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into.

I didn't know dogs were allowed in Home Depot. I'm really quite impressed she rode in the cart, Rex wouldn't put up with that for two seconds.

Re Mimi's Day Out

Technically no dogs are allowed in Home Depot. I think individual management might handle it differently in different stores. One of the assistant managers looked at the dog and I but didn't say a word. Some of the department heads have even brought their own dogs in, so I didn't feel so bad bringing mine in.

Re Mimi's Day Out

Well, I guess I always ask before bringing my dog anywhere. The last thing I want to have to do is leave him in the car for any length of time.

Re Mimi's Day Out

I did a product demo in Home Depot. I know they allow dogs because I saw a gazillion of them. Also, Mimi was visiting her other owner, who works in that store

Yes, of course, I wouldn't bring her anywhere that I didn't know she could go. I would not leave her in the car for more than a second while I grab a cart to put her in. You can ask Kevin, he's seen me write notes to people who leave dogs in the car... and how much I think they deserve to own dogs...
