Mimi ate her blanket last night. It's a fleece blanket that we've used with her since we brought her home from the pound. She ate some of the fringe and a hole in the blanket. She didn't just tear it up... she swallowed it. I didn't know it until I found some strange fabric in the pen... it was green. I couldn't figure out what she ripped apart that was green... then I realized it was the way that a light blue blanket looks after it's coated with bile.
She threw up a sizable amount... ehh... roughly baseball sized. As far as I can guess, it's probably most if not all of what she swallowed.
How worried should I be? She seems well... waggy tail and all.
Kevin and I both leave for work in 3 hours... should one of us be calling in so we can stay home and watch her? Or are we out of the woods if she barfed it up and seems well...?
She just pooped and ate her breakfast (in that order) so I'm thinking we're ok. We're also happy-go-lucky this morning, which I take as a good sign.
The more I think about it, we got home late last night, and I don't think either of us really looked *into* her pen. I touched the fabric this morning when I was in the "what the heck is this" process, and it wasn't that wet -- perhaps this incident happened before we were even home last night (also, the house had a funny smell, come to think of it) and that would also explain why she didn't eat her dinner last night. Methinks this happened more than 12 hours ago, and probably all is well now (knock wood).
If it's just her blanket and you think she threw it all up, she should be fine. Especially if she's eating and pooping.
When I worked in the Vet ER a dog came in that had eaten an entire foam couch cushion. Foam is bad! Basically, we just watched him to make sure he was acting ok. And since I was low man on the totem-pole, I got to clean up several ponds of puke.
