I have two pets.

Baron is a one year-old Siberian husky with rust and white fur and ice blue eyes. He's huge.

I also have a cat. We couldn't think of a good name for her so we named her "Kitty" She came to us as a stray a year and a half ago. She is the ugliest cat I've ever seen and has taken up the annoying habit of of meowing constantly.

Brief Synopsis of the current Zoo assembly:

(all my relatives are puzzled by my animal magnetism sucker for anything furry and in need of love, just ask my fiance> but I say 'joke 'em if they can't take a....')

The Cat Crowd

Lucy: Tortie with lots of red in her fur and a set of vocal chords on her that combined with the fur to cause her name. Has strange obsession with plastic and bleach, able to find and eat both no matter where it is locked away without any seeming health problems. Our most ungraceful cat, unable to make leaps of any kind without injury. 11 years old.

Ethel: Lucy's sister. Mom was a slut though, as Ethel is a grey and black tabby. Quiet, cute, love-sponge type of cat. a.k.a. "the cat that pets like a dog". Very graceful kitty with obsession for chocolate and unshelled sunflowwer seeds - no candy bar is safe in this house with Ethel around. 11 years old.

Autumn: Recently deceased. Our pound cat, picked up during an ill-conceived stint as handler at the local humane society (yeah, right, I actually thought I could just play with lonely animals and leave them every week - duh). Colors of her name, mainly gold. Frisky, ate anything, loved water. We will miss her... 9 years old (best guess of vet).

Dog Daze

Harley: 150 pounds of joy and love, my male rottweiler is such a cute little lugnut, but just not the brightest dog I've ever owned. His major accomplishments so far this year: finally mastering "stay" (he had already learned sit, heel, come, down, get on the couch, beg from the floor, paw, other paw while working with his sister). 6 years old.

Sugar: 135 pounds of joy and love, the bane of her less intelligent brother's existence (she starts it, he gets caught...tee hee). Named herself by appearing by my side every time I said "sugar" (a lot since I am southern, ranks right up there with 'honey' in southern endearments), thus thwarting my master plan of naming himDavidson and her Harley. She has the same trick reperatoire as Harley, with the addition of fetch and a few other things he can't do yet. 6 years old.

A Sqwawking Mess

Bartles: Belonging to my 'honey', this is a medium sized grey cockateil. Possibly the most obnoxious bird I have ever met. My honey says he has only been that way since James (bird's sibling) died a while before we moved in together. Hrmph. Tendency to dive bomb the dog for fun on the assumption he can't catch him, ability to let self out of cage causes many messes. Steals cigarettes, particularly fond of Marlboros. 8 yrs old.

Fins and Scales

Plecostomous: an amazing wonder my fiance has had for almost 15 years now. Larger than most of the fish in the tank, including the shark. Affectionally called "Bunny" for his tendency to go on living in spite of everything. 15 yrs old.

Shark, other aggressive fish: the other tank inhabitants, ranging from 1 yr to 15. Feeding time has become an entertainment segment of a trip to our house (apparantly not many people own fish that eat other fish? At least not in this neighborhood).

Wispy: King Snake, recently died after moving to colder climate and being driven cross country to do so - too much stress. Faithful arm decoration and companion for many years.

Well, that's everyone who is "officially ours". This does not include the many outside stray cats the fiance feeds and takes care of, or the dogs that pass through on the way to the vet, pound, other homes, etc (we live in a rural location popular for abandoning animals) or the birds we feed outside the bay window as a kind of entertainment center for indoor cats...

Shake Disgusting.

The almost total lack of hamsters in the homes of Epinions members disgusts and appalls me to the point of physical pain.

Hamsters are clean, friendly and eat kiwi fruit.

Hamsters only bite people who deserve it.

Hamsters are cheap to look after.

I'm going to tell Alawston about this under-representation of hamsters when he wakes up, and I don't mind telling you he's gonna be pissed.

The hamsters are coming.

Regards
Sean [the hamster]

Sean,

I think you are the first hamster I've seen posting on EA

Welcome!

Tell Alawston that he is welcome to share hamster tales anytime. Maybe he could even post a photograph or two, if you're not camera shy that is.

Question

Hello,

Sean is a little camera shy, I'm afraid. He has a tendency to wriggle out of shot or, in extreme cases, to jump off the table I put him on.

There is a photo of him on my Epinions profile, balancing cutely atop a pile of Jean-Luc Godard films. My web access is sorely limited at the moment, but I shall see about posting the picture here sometime soon.

Andrew

We currently reside with two male felines, a Maine Coon and Norwegian Forest Cat.

A Basenji pup, male.

A variety of tropical fish including parrots, a shark, plecostomous and Spike, the beta.

Hmmmm... we also have a squatter in the backyard, a young rabbit born here and the only one of his litter to take up permanent residence.

Children: two girls, with a new addition due this summer.

I like hamsters very much - also Guinea Pigs and Ferrets. Sadly all of the above make my eyes swell shut immediately upon being in the room with them, or we'd probably add them to our "zoo".

This could take a while: 10 cats, 11 gerbils, 1 betta, plus assorted other tropical fish

Cats:

Tuffy--Our oldest boy. He's a big, bony orange tiger with diabetes. He will snuggle any time, any place, any how. We got him when his owner died in a motorcycle accident, leaving four cats. No one would adopt Tuff; he was too old and too sick. Their loss, our gain!

Ugly--Our oldest girl. A beautiful calico who likes to shout. My husband says she's ugly. She's not. Though she does have the world's biggest feet.

Ichabod--B/W tuxedo with an attitude. Some horrible person cut her ears off and burnt her with cigarettes If I ever met that person (person? Ha!) I'd soon be in jail for murder.

Irving--neurotic and flaky, Irv is my cuddler. Beautiful, slinky, solid black, with a prehensile tail.

Halley--otherwise known as Fuzzbucket. She has more hair than the rest of our cats combined. She also has only meowed once. She loves to pat people on the head with her enormous puffy feet.

Orson--our Giant Kitty. He's twenty pounds of solitude. He doesn't like the other cats, but he loves to lie on my pillow (when I'm trying to sleep) and lick my hair.

Dickens--gorgeous brown tabby, with a bushy tail and a tilty head. She has hearing and balance problems from a kittenhood injury. She doesn't meow, she bweeps! Bweep!

Isaac--chubby and smoky grey. Isaac loves my husband with a passion.

Cosmo--another tuxedo. Cosmo is tiny, but mean. She likes to pop out of nowhere and bite the other cats, especially Orson. Ichabod beats the snot out of her on occasion, but everyone else just runs away.

Albert--a puffy fuzzball of white. Albert wants to be held constantly. He howls when you put him down. He likes to hide on the stairs and pop out to attack Irving.

The gerbils:

One gold, five dark grey, five silver. Some don't have names but of the named ones: Percy, Peanut, Curly, Moe, RJ, and JR.

The betta:

Pad Thai replaced my beloved Gainsborough. Both know what the food pouch looks like and swim excitedly when they see it.

The other fish:

Tinfoil barbs, a clown loach named Bozo, giant danios, a redtail shark, many Kribensis (sp?).

Whew.

Julie

Mr Zed ... is our extremely spoiled child substitute. He is an overweight, black and white puddycat who thinks he is a dog.
He is under the impression he is the boss of everybody and is known as 'the little prince' or 'Terror cat', depending on his mood.

Ant is our laid back sheepdog come pet. She loves everybody she meets.

Cash Is our bad tempered sheepdog. he would like to bite everyone he meets

Bear Is our old and rather confused retired sheepdog. He lies around in the sunshine all day and at the age of14, is a bit blind, a bit deaf and a bit arthritic.

Thats the family!

Cheers,
Christine

Hello Christine and welcome to EA. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Wow, three sheepdogs?! I love sheepdogs, how did you end up with three of them?

Curious,

I have temporary custody of my roommate's cat, a very cute nine-month-old named Princess who, in a very short while, has already established one basic rule:

This is my house. I just allow you to live in it.

Yup. He's one of those pretty Siamese fighting fish with long fins that people say can live in tiny cups of water because they're native to puddles in Thai rice fields. Like all of my animals, Kozo is rather spoiled, and instead lives in an elaborately landscaped big bowl that was probably designed with a goldfish in mind.

I've seen the word spelled "beta" too, but I use the double-t method since that's what on his fish food.

We have Betta's too! Cute little guys, aren't they! I hate when people leave them in a tiny cup. I know they have a 2 second memory span and it always seems new, but it seems wrong. Ours have nice big bowls with plants and rocks. Zeta hangs in the hole in his rock, Bob hangs out in the corner, and Ziggy constantly zig-zags back and forth.

This is the fourth betta I've had. I think that they are actually fairly intelligent for fish-- moreso than the guppies and goldies I kept in the past, at least. Kozo isn't all that bright, but Genki, the betta I had before him, would nuzzle my finger when I put in the water, and would come to the surface when I spoke to him. I miss that fish.

I know what you mean - they can be bright (for fish). My first betta, Hudson, was extremely interactive. I had him on my desk at work, and he would always swim over to great guests. He liked being around people. One of my co-workers would always put a photo of my nephew up by his bowl to keep him company, and he would swim back and forth in front of the baby all day. It was cute. I was quite sad when he died, but he lived a long time for a fish. Since then we've had Suess and Alpha (both gone) and the three boys mentioned above (all still around).
That and 2 cats - who often attempt to go fishing!

Kozo lives waaaaay up on a shelf, out of reach of the cats and the rats, who would all like to eat him if they had the opportunity. The poor dear is really at the bottom of the food chain.
