| | My son has proposed a new forum for the second generation EA crowd. It would be for the kiddos to get together and talk, plan isketch outings, etc.
Would y'all use it?

| | Margaret (Magenta) raised a few good points about a kiddo forum. I propose that:
a) Parents would have to explicitly request access for their kids to the kids forum.
b) It would be a private forum visible only to the kids and their parents.
c) Upon parental request, any and or all of the other forums could be hidden from the children. This protects them from stan and us from the kiddos.
d) I think, with a wee bit of hacking, I can put a different set of smilies in effect for the kiddos.

| | Regarding age, I think that should be left up to the parents. If you think your 13 yr old is not ready for the board, don't sign them up. However, if you think your kid is computer savvy enough at 9 to play isketch and talk to young teens and pre-teens, sign them up.

| | The parents would have access, and if no other moderator on the team volunteers, I would be willing to moderate. My own two kids would be there and maybe Lynne's?

| | Damn Magenta is smart sometimes. She also proposes that members new to EA would have to be known to us a bit before they could ask for access for their kids. This is for safety reasons.

| | Are we limiting the kids to this specific forum? I see no reason why older kids couldn't play in the books, movies, technology, music, etc. forums if they feel so inclined - I know I would have been in heaven to find them when I was a teenager.

| | What about the under 18 crowd that are already on the board under their own initiative? ie. those who already use all the forums and whose parents are not EA members. Would they have access to both areas, just the current EA forums, or would they have to use the kiddie section only?

| | Janice, forum access would be set by the parents. It can be a highly individual thing. For example, your oldest child might just be blocked from the soapbox and your younger child might be blocked from a few other forums. It would be totally up to the parent.

| | Katherine, regarding the under 18 crowd that we already have, I think I need more time to think about the best strategy.

| Please god no. I am mature enough to handle all the forums here and would be incredibly disappointed if someone did this. |

| | Zach, I don't think there's a debate about cutting off your access. My one thought is whether or not teens without parents should be allowed in the kids forum.

| | Amy,
Do you actually think the children would post often ? As for what Nicholmere said, I would really hope you don't consider cutting ANY type of access to the forums. |

So I PMed her. I think she brought up everything I said in PM.
I was just trying to bring up concerns I had, without stepping on anyone's toes. |

| | Yah, my kids would love it. They ask me constantly how old you have to be to register. And I'd even help moderate.
But if they embarrass me, they're not mine. K?

| | I think it is a good idea, said he without children.
Security would be my one concern, but it seems you're thinking about that already.
Thus, my tuppence opinion is offered. |

| | Zach, I'm going to be mighty personal. Tell me to shut up if you want. But you just posted in the shopper's thread about test driving a Kia.
Just how old are you?

The Kia thing was on techbargains. I would have had my parents test drive it. Is there a problem ? |

| | Zach, I don't think you need to be defensive. It doesn't look like this will have a big impact on you, unless you want it to.
And I think you just piqued George's curiosity. I am sure he meant nothing by his question.
Take care

| | Whoa, Trigger. I remembered you said that you were a teenager, and I knew that virtually every dealership in North America will prohibit teenagers from test driving so I was curious.
I also know that you're a movie TR and sometimes contribute reviews on R rated movies so I wasn't sure if the teenage thing was a personna or the real you.
Anyway, looks like you deleted the Kia thread so the issue is probably moot, but I guess I inferred that you had test driven the Kia yourself.
I'll say again -- merely curiou | |
