Thread titles

Longstanding bug: editing the title of the first post in a thread does not actually change the title of the thread, i.e., in the listing of threads in the forum or in a new posts listing.

On a few occasions, I've asked moderators to change the title of a thread I created when I realized my original choice was unfortunate in some way, but I hate to bother them. Any chance of fixing it so that the thread title can be changed by the thread starter?

But what would happen if someone posted a thread called "why I think No Doubt should be deported" and after getting twenty replies changes the thread name to "anyone who posted in this thread is a weenie"?

You can change it yourself within the first 5 minutes of posting it. After that a mod has to change it. Julie is exactly right about why this is true.
