| | What name would you pick? | | If you had to change your name, what would you change it to? Why?
When I was younger, I would have changed it to Judy, Wendy or Windy. As a teenager, I liked Clarice. Now it would be tough, 'cause I've grown to like my name a lot. However, lots of people call me Brenda, so that might be the easiest for me to remember to respond to. However, if I were to choose one based on what I liked, it would probably be Miranda (from Shakespere's The Tempest, it means "admirable, beautiful") or Olivia (from Twelfth Night).

| | Well, my given (legal) name is Carlee - and the only thing I will be changing about it is the spelling...
I've always loved my name, but because folks seemed to have a difficult time remembering it, I was called Cara and Carol a lot.
Now...if I could change my name to something completely different....
Hmmm....it would probably be something as unique and strange as my name, now.
Saoirse (seer-sha)
Nore (short for Elenore)
Chessa (once knew what this name meant, now I can't remember - help?!?!)
There are more (I write fiction, so I have a bunch of names written down at home), I just can't remember them all.
OMG! This is the Kabalarians name site - prelim. info on "Carlee". What a shocker.
There are only 2 things out of that paragraph I can identify with. Other than that - fluff! Good grief.

| | That Kalabrian's site is scary! I don't even want to put the link to my name because so much in the paragraph is true about me. Then again, it is also general enough that I imagine much of it could apply to anyone at a given point or other in their life.
It's completely off on its description of my son and only half right on its description of my son.

| | When I was little, I wanted basically *any* popular name to escape my own (Lesley). When I was a teenager, I loved the name Claire. Now I like my name, but I have a bit of an obsession with baby name books. I like to sit and ponder names that I could use for future kids, future pets, future online aliases. . . . (Yes, I know I am weird.) Funnily enough, one of my favorite female names is Bridget(te). I also love the names Anne-Marie (it's gotta have the hyphen and the "e" though), Caroline, Carolina (Spanish pronunciation), Colleen, Diana, Victoria, Vivian, Veronica, Virginia, Virginie, Vera (yes, I like "V" names), Tessa, Molly, Holly, Laine, Clarissa, Camille, Therese (French or English pronunciation), Autumn, September (yes, I like this as a name. No, I am not a neo-hippy, ), Avril, Annabel, Isabella, Isabel, Elisabeth, Mary Ann, etc., etc. I am not too wild about any particular male names at the moment, LOL. I really like thinking about names!!!!! |

| | Cool site!! Quote: |
The name of Deborah has given you organizing ability as well as an expressive, positive, and self-confident nature. You are able to work well with people and can capably direct their activities. You enjoy music and art, and love to meet and mix with people. An appreciation for quality has prompted you to strive for the best standard in dress, material possessions, and choice of food. On occasion, you can be intolerant and critical of others, quick to argue and to dominate situations. Though the name offers a fair degree of balance, you would have to watch that strong appetites do not find an outlet through excessive eating, causing overweight and resultant problems, or through emotional experiences which could create unsettled conditions in your personal life. Weakness in the health could centre in the female functions, or skin conditions could be troublesome.
| I don't think the "quick to argue" and tendency to dominate describes me very well. My extra pounds probably stem from lack of exercise, rather than overeating (although Sara and Tanster are out to change that), and I've never had problems with my "female functions". I do enjoy nice clothes and good food though.
Deb
p.s. After checking my dream name, I'll be satisfied to remain Deborah. If my parents had chosen Anastasia, I might be stuck with a personality that emphasizes material things, with little appreciation towards the more artistic, philosophical, or inspirational matters. I like me the way I am. |

The name of Lynne creates an overly-sensitive nature which causes you to sense and feel far more than you can understand or put into words. You have a deep, artistic, and creative side which shows through a love for music and literature. Writing is a more natural mode of expression for your deeper thoughts and feelings than the spoken word. You have an ability to concentrate and work intently on anything which holds your interest. However, you prefer to avoid routine, monotony, and mental tasks. You enjoy the out-of-doors and find your greatest peace and relaxation from the beauty and harmony of nature. You prefer to limit your friendships and associations to those who share your interests and appreciate your quiet, refined ways. Others often find it difficult to understand you. Your feelings tend to build up within you and, if you cannot release them through a creative, constructive channel, you could suffer with frustration, moods, and much inner turmoil. This name causes tension in the region of the solar plexus, as well as the heart and lungs. Health problems would centre in those areas of the body.
| And yah, I've got stomach ulcers...

| | Ok. So Lynne is my chosen name. Legal name is Bethlyn. Quote: |
The name Bethlyn gives you a strongly independent and highly creative nature, with drive and ambition to have experiences and accomplish things out of the ordinary. You can work intently at whatever is new and holds your interest at the moment, but your interest wanes quickly when drudgery and monotony set in. Obstacles to your progress or restrictions on your freedom to act create a sense of frustration which may cause you to feel resentful and even rebellious. You can then become intolerant of others, and caustic and belittling in your expression, thereby imposing stress on your personal relationships. Although you have a clever, quick, capable mind, your progress in life is restricted by instability in your affairs and misunderstandings with people. Your impulsive nature can lead to actions which you later regret taking, or to accidents. Relaxation is elusive, and depletion due to nervous tension can develop to the point where you become subject to moods of depression and morbid thoughts. Nervous tension centres in the solar plexus, with nervous indigestion and stomach ulcers a possible result.
| Either way I'm stuck with ulcers...
They're both me.
Lynne

| | Well, I like my name. Still, some other favorites are Emily, Charlotte, and Beth. I also like the name Regan, but that's a problem because people would automatically associate it with Ronald Regan, or the girl from The Exorcist. I also like the names Lorelai and Ainsley, because of tv characters. |

| | Here's the one for Ailsa: Quote: |
Your name of Ailsa gives you the desire to understand and to help others but, at the same time you can become too involved in their problems and, as a result, worry too much. You desire a home and family of your own and have the ability to create understanding and harmony in family association as you are pliable, forgiving, and tactful. You love children and would not hesitate to care for any children who might need you. Whenever possible, you avoid argument and turmoil because you prefer not to face an issue if it means hurting anyone's feelings. You shrink from sordidness and poverty because you feel very deeply for anyone in unfortunate circumstances. Though you recognize your responsibilities, you are inclined to put things off until you are forced to take action. If given the opportunity, you could develop musical and artistic abilities. This name is a fairly healthy influence, although it does not give you as much vitality as many people have. Any tension centres in the fluid functions causing overweight, varicose veins, swelling of the legs and ankles, kidney trouble, bladder trouble, or female problems.
| And here's the one for Elsa (which would have been my name if my dad hadn't goofed): Quote: |
Your name of Elsa has created a practical, responsible, stable nature, and you desire to direct the efforts of others rather than to take order or ask permission. You have a determined, self-reliant, capable nature and resent any interference, although in your desire to help you are inclined to become involved in the lives and decisions of other people. You like to make your own decisions and to be the master of your domain. You feel a limitation in your own expression when it is necessary to reach another through tact and understanding. Although you are honest and fair, a directness in speech is a source of much consternation to you, and you often regret what you say. You also have a tendency to worry. It causes you to be too serious, and interferes with happiness and relaxation that comes with naturalness of expression. Health weaknesses centre in the head appearing as headaches, head colds, and eye, teeth, ear, or sinus problems.
| I can see me in both of those, especially the worrywart part.
I used to want Elsa as a name, only because people then didn't have to wonder how to spell or say it. I've had this one for 30 years, though -- might as well stick with it.

| | This is not funny. These guys have been watching my life forever or what? It's EXACTLY me. I'm scared.
Your name of Alex gives you a clever mind, good business judgment, a sense of responsibility, and an appreciation of the finer things of life. You are serious-minded and not inclined to make light of things even in little ways, and in your younger years you had more mature interests than others your age. Home and family mean a great deal to you and it is natural that you should desire the security of a peaceful, settled home environment where you can enjoy the companionship of family and friends. Whatever you set out to accomplish you do your very best to complete in accordance with what you consider to be right. In the home you assume your responsibilities capably, having the self-confidence to form your own opinions and make your own decisions. Others can rely on you; once you have given your word you will do your utmost to fulfil a responsibility. However, there is a tendency to be a little too independent in your thinking and it is difficult for you to accept the help of others when you should. Due to your strong sense of responsibility, you could experience worry and mental turmoil through assuming more responsibility than you should. Friction could arise through others feeling that you were interfering with their rights and privileges, even though you are only trying to help.

| | Sara
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your first name of Sara has given you a sociable, kind, and thoughtful nature. Your sensitivity and sympathy to the needs of people causes difficulty when you need to be individual and maintain control over your feelings. You can be easily hurt and emotionally upset and, because you become so closely involved with people, you can be unduly influenced by them, sometimes against your better judgment. You are inclined to put things off until forced to take action. You accomplish more working with people who encourage and inspire you, and particularly those who can give you confidence by laying out a step-by-step pattern for you. You do not take life too seriously, because you tend to live for the day. It is not typical of you to plan ahead, to think of the consequences of your actions, and to set meaningful objectives in your life. You are more likely to drift into experiences, benefitting from social contact and the attractiveness of your personality. You have felt insecure in learning and adapting to new things, and have struggled with lack of concentration and persistence to make a success of your efforts. In the health, you would experience skin conditions because of a rich diet, and also fluid problems affecting the glandular system and kidneys.
I first read this several years ago and freaked when I did. It's me in a nutshell. Well, except for the skin condition part.
As to what name I prefer, why bother with anything else? I'd just have to adjust to a whole new personality. And, as the descrition says, I have a hard time adapting to new things.
Sara (any way you look at it)

| | WOULD I CHANGE MY NAME??? | | When I was born, I was given the name of my Great-Grandmother, "Margaret".
I never actually hated that name because I was never called Margaret (or for that matter, any derivative of it). I'll explain.
I was born in 1947 (yes, I'm not too vain to mention how old I am), and my brother Frank was born 27 months before.
My mom always sung to us, but before I came along, she would sing that old song, "Frankie and Johnnie" to my brother.
The day she brought me home from the hospital, my big brother screamed in his lovely, baby talk: "My didter, Donnie id home!"
For the next few weeks, as hard as my mom tried, she could not get my brother to call me Margaret. He just kept screaming that if he was "Fankie", his sister should be "Donnie" (he couldn't pronounce "J")
So, in order to keep him from throwing his tantrums, it was much easier to call me "Donnie" - hoping that as he got older, I could finally be called Margaret.
But, we all know how nicknames stick. So 54 years later, even after my brother has passed on, I am still called "Donnie" by family and frieinds.
Would I change my name from Margaret to Donnie? I thought of it but then, I kind of like being named after my Great-Grandmother, even if I'm called by her name.:lips:

| | That's a sweet story Donnie
My 3 yr old renamed her baby sister too. #4 is supposed to be Jacqueline Laura. Instead, she is now Kiki. Kiki actually seems to fit her better than Jackie anyway.

| | I always wanted to be named Vor the Invincible. My mom and the sperm donor, of course, opted for Jeff. Jeff is an okay name, but I can go to a party, a business meeting, or even look at my office directory for Denver and find a half-dozen Jeffs on the list.
So, I wanted to be named Vor the Invincible.
Actually I should be happy. Mom wanted to name me something else besides Jeff. The sperm donor stepped in, and the one good and decent thing that man ever did in this world was to put his foot down and tell my mom that under no circumstances whatsoever would he allow his child to be named what she was going to name me. Instead, it appears on my birth certificate as my middle name.
But I wanted to be named Vor the Invincible.
Michelle and I were discussing baby names the other day (no we're not even remotely close to expecting -- I have a strict rule of no sex before marriage and we're not married) and she asked what I liked. We agreed on cute girl names and then it came to boy names.
I proudly declared, "I will name our boy Vor the Invincible."
Needless to say, he's going to have a biblical name instead.
But thank God for nicknames. |

| | Your first name of Amy has made you a friendly, approachable, and generous person. Generally you are good-natured, though at times you can be blunt and sarcastic. As you are naturally talkative, you find it easy to meet and make friends with many people. This name inclines you to be sympathetic and generous to those in difficult or unfortunate circumstances. You can be firm, positive, and independent in your own ideas and in reaching your own decisions, yet when it comes to taking action or following things through to completion, you often need encouragement. You respond quickly to kind words or any appreciation shown you. There are artistic, creative abilities in this name that you could express through music or singing, or, in a practical way, through sewing or interior decorating. You enjoy freedom from monotony and are stimulated by unexpected opportunities for meeting people, entertaining, or pursuing activities of a carefree nature. In your work, you find it difficult to be neat and orderly. You rarely plan things ahead of time, or follow a routine. Emotion and feeling, the desire to be carefree, friendly, and happy, are the driving forces in your being, rather than shrewdness, ambition, and material success. You could experience headaches, or problems with your teeth, ears, eyes, or sinuses. Health weaknesses relative to the functioning of the liver could appear.

I once had the opportunity to choose a new name - I was advised by a battered women's shelter to change my name and go in hiding about 9 years ago (no I wasn't battered - ex was trying to kidnap kids and go back to Egypt)
At the time, I thought about using Kathleen (my middle name)

| | Weird! That's weird! I absolutely cannot understand how the Kabalarian Society got my personality so bang-on correct, just from my name!
I mean, I did my Hebrew name just to be difficult- and it not only had it, but it described me to a T. So did my English name- and by the time I'd finished searching on all four names (first and middle , English and Hebrew) it gave a pretty acurate (if embarrassing!) picture of me. It scared me- no kidding!

| | I don't remember what names I wanted to change to when I was younger. Naomi, for some strange reason, is very difficult for people to spell or pronounce (I still get Ni-omi-ed a lot, how anyone gets an i sound out of Nay-omi is beyond me). However, as a teenager I began to like my name because it was more individual than every Jennifer and Stacy I went to school with.
The Kalabrian site's description of me based on my name doesn't really fit who I am. A couple of things are right on (love of literature and feelings that run deep), but I'm not that moody and I don't have difficulty expressing myself orally. I don't really have a nickname so that doesn't account for the discrepancy.
Interesting though...

| | As a kid I liked Cinamon and Ginger, until I grew up and realized they were stripper names. In first grade I used to literally beg my parents to legally change my name to either one of those.
When I got into high school, my favorite names were Chloe, Zoe and Joey. I wanted to have three kids and name them those names. At the time, Zoe was my favorite of the lot. Now I like Chloe.
Now I am fond of the name I was originally supposed to have -- Carrie Ann. In fact, I've always liked that one. I wonder why my parents cursed me with an old lady's name instead?
I think about baby names a lot still. I think if I had a boy right now it would be Andre (Dre for short) Raymond and if it was a girl it would be Ashley Marie. |
