One boy, boy for sale.....

A couple expecting their third child, a son, has put "naming rights" up for auction on Ebay and Amazon.com They're asking for a minimum bid of $500,000 (and don't have any takers so far....)

They've decided that it would be worth it to get a downpayment for a home to raise their three kids in to allow the third one to be named: Coke, Pepsi, IBM, or whatever....

A fortune cookie told them that they would be able to afford a house, and this is the only idea they came up with.

Because of their convictions, they are restricting gun manufacturers and cigarette companies from bidding.

While not as crass as advertising transplantable kidneys on Ebay, this certainly appears to be an example of commercialism at its worst.

(Reported in USA Today 7/25.)

If I put up the money, can I take little Rapunzel away when he's six months old?

bridgette

I'll admit I chuckled to myself... they're willing to sell their child's name to the highest bidder but they want to have scruples about it?

If I bid $500,000 can I name the kid "My Parents Are Idiots?"

If this kid's parents take fortune cookies to heart, the poor tyke is already doomed.

Um I have to ask one thing though...

$500,000 for a downpayment? Are they looking at buying Bill Gates' house or something?

No, I’m not making this up

The sister of a fiend of mine had a guy working for her employer (is that enough degrees of separation?) named Pepsi Marijuana Jackson.

LOL

Probably named by hippie parents, right?

There was a trial going on in Quebec because parents wanted to name their kid "Spatula".

Then some other idiot went and called their daughter "She's-an-angel". Can you imagine?!

Hum, lets see-I'm named after a day of the week, a slave or a norse goddess depending on how you look at it. Both my brothers are named after a radical 60's activist priest who dug graves on the white house lawn-hippie mom? whadda ya think?

actually-this isn't such a bad idea

There was an AP story in the paper the other day about these two clean cut all american boys who basicly "sold" themselves to a major corp. (1st usa visa I believe) for college tuition-in exchange for the company paying ALL their tuiton and expenses-they wear billboard clothes, they walk around the beach with surfboards promenatly marked with the company logo and they talk to other young college students about the company and money and responsibility-

pretty cool way to pay for college I think

Hey no matter what your name is, you can always change it or get a nickname-I had a friend who's parents named her Ingles-she changed it to alexa when she got old enough to do it.

I was wondering the same thing! What kind of house do they want to raise three kids in. Seems like if they cant afford to buy an ordinary home, how in the world will they afford to pay taxes on anything that expensive? LOL

It's good that they have standards; too bad their standards are so low!

I hope Vagisil buys the naming rights, the kid goes nuts, kills them both in their sleep.

I don't know... I'm kind of fond of that Spatula name.
