| | The biggest differences are with social issues. The Libertarian Party (but not necessarily all libertarians) supports ending the war on drugs, abortion rights, legalizing prostitution, and similar policies to restrict the role of government in people’s lives. They (broad generalization) mostly agree with the Republicans on things like reducing business regulations and protecting gun ownership and property rights. |

| | But the biggest difference is that the Republicans have finished in first or second place in every Presidential election since 1860 and the Libertarians have never gotten more than about one percent of the vote. |

| | That's because the Libertarians are doing a lousy job of getting their message out, they pick real loser candidates with the appeal of old sweaty socks (take Harry Browne as an example), and their platform is a little more than most of the American public want to deal with. |

| | Hey, maybe my right-of-center colleague from Toastmasters, the lifetime member of the John Birch Society, the one who has a bumper sticker proclaiming, "MY President is Charlton Heston", is really a libertarian.
He once told me we need to keep our guns in case the government gets too powerful, and I can picture him hauling off to the woods with the militia.
One good thing about Dubya--I trust him more than this guy... |

| | Elected Libertarian is an oxymoron -- it's difficult for people who want the government to get out of their lives to hand their lives over to the government.
