Exclamation It arrived!!!! (My Potty Training in 1/2 a Day book!)....

I'm really quite impressed so far (read 50 pages last night). I like the idea of getting a "wetting" doll and having Ali teach the doll how to use the potty (then showing her how it pees... that THAT is success)! I think that will drive the point home.
The book says to dedicate half a day locked up in the kitchen, with her potty there & lots of (salty) snacks & special drinks (to create more peeing opportunities).... I wonder what you can do all morning & stay focused on the potty theme.

I think I am going to bring her little table/chair set in th kitchen and we will make pottys (out of paper)... then I might make some poop and pee cut outs and have her paste them there. Any one have any other ideas? lol. This could be fun & quite "bonding" relationship wise.

We'll make our "chart".... Hmmm. Wonder if they make potty cookie cut outs? lol. Ok, I am getting a little giddy here.

I am going to have cover the kitchen floor (which is just plywood covered in builder's paper) with cheap shower curtains, to make it "water proof"... I agree that keeping the messes OFF my carpets will help mommy remain less stressed.

I haven't gotten all of my materials yet, so I'm not sure when the big day will be yet. But I promise to keep you posted.

Oh, here's a funny idea that one of my June mommies posted about potty training (dh laughed & agreed it would be a good idea):

Do you know what I had to do? I had to run around from the minute I got off work until he went to bed in my big girl undies and show him that I don't go potty in them. When DH (dear husband) got home from work, he would strip down to his big boy undies too! Quite a site at our household- good thing the blinds were drawn...:p He still wears a diaper at nap and bedtime, but hey, if those are the only times he is in one, I am completely happy with that, for now!!!! Yeah !!!!!

Sounds like a good idea, huh? lol.

And lastly, just so it is easy to find, here is the potty training board in case anyone wants it. I haven't checked it out yet, but may peek....

You sound so organized and prepared! Wow!

So far all I've bought is a new potty seat. It stays in the bathroom. Everytime my son (19 months old) umm ... toots, I ask him "Poop?" and he nods enthusiastically. Then I ask, "do you have to go potty?" He gets more excited and starts nodding. When I say, "let's go" he races me to the bathroom. I leave all his clothes on since I'm just trying to get him to make the connection between the 'urge' and the location to do it. He doesn't usually sit on the potty properly either. He likes to climb on, resting his feet inside the bowl part. He stays there for about two seconds and then he gets to flush the real toilet and wash his hands.

The idea of the potty doll sounds interesting. Yesterday Nicholas decided to potty train Elmo. He pointed at Elmo's "pee" area and when I asked if Elmo had to go potty, Nicholas took him into the bathroom.

I wish I could think of some helpful suggestions on how to stay focused on the potty for one morning, but I can't I guess it depends on your daughter's (and your own) attention span. An entire morning sounds like a long time to me, but that's probably because my son's attention span just wouldn't last that long. Maybe some colouring books related to bathtime routines, maybe lots of dolls lined up for the potty? I've read several reviews on potty videos, maybe that would help?

Good Luck!

Happy peeing

Cool It arrived!!!! (My Potty Training in 1/2 a Day book!).... more

Thanks Katherine. My daughter will be 3 in Nov. and definitely ready to focus on half a day of potty training fun, with just her mommy (no baby brother) all morning. I think she is going to feel extremely special by the end of our time together. (I can't wait for the big day. lol.) And hopefully very proud of herself should she experience even small success; we've only had success when *I* place her on the potty & she just happens to have to go when placed on the potty. I don't consider it a success until SHE recognizes the urge to go and places herself on the potty to go. (I am looking forward to that day.... 2 in diapers is getting a little old).

19 months is a bit young to expect any results (although some ARE ready at that age). The average age (I read) is 2.5 yrs old. But it sounds like you are doing a great job getting your little one familiar with the the process (Good for you!!!).

Good luck!
