| | My feet are crying but I am finished!! | | Finally completed ALL my back to school shopping this afternoon after a marathon 6 hour shopping binge.
Every school supply, every shoe, and every item of clothing that I am willing to buy has been purchased.
Now all I have to do is sew the doo-dad stuff on to Courtney's blue jean shorts. But that's ok. I can do that sitting down!
And I had a piece of great news while I was standing outside the fitting room waiting for Courtney to model her gazillionth outfit.
Next year? School uniforms!
Yes! Oh yes! I'm happy!

| | Didn't have a choice. School starts back on Wednesday. And as often as I threaten it, I would never really make them go naked.

| | School doesn't start here until after Labor Day. I still have to deal with having Mr. Testosterone around for nearly another month.
One good thing Lynne, once they get into high school it becomes easier. You just hand them a wad of cash and hope they bring back the right stuff and, if you believe in miracles, some change.

| | You actually give them money and let THEM pick out their clothing? Teenagers?
If I did that with Courtney she'd come back with some of those 12 inch platform stilletos I had to drag her away from yesterday...
Dawg I'm going to love uniforms. I'll take 5 of these shorts in navy blue, five in kacki, give me 5 pullover shirts in white and the same in button down.
Wah-Lah!
School clothes finished.

| | Okay, so maybe it'll only be easier with one of your kids.

| As a teen (and even now) I'm not your typical female (who here is???)
I hated spending money on clothes
every year it was the same
mom would take us out
she and I would argue
I didn't want to spend as much as she did
we'd come home with nothing
Dad would take me out
hand me $50 and refuse to take me home until I had given him $50 worth of receipts
since I didn't get my license till I was 18 and he'd take me to a mall far far away walking wasn't an option
I still hate buying clothes for me
they are so expensive

| | Oh, Bridgette, I think my dad would have loved having you as a daughter.
My mom and I would take off to the mall with his credit card. Something like 8 hours and $700 later, we would drive home, school clothes galore. It was usually my suggestion to stop at the liquor store and get my dad a nice bottle of scotch before we handed him all the receipts! LOL
Of course, with all of the shocked looks I got from him, I know that he totally enjoyed the fact that I outgrew the tomboy stage. And now that I am grown up (as much as I am going to get...lol) and out of the house, he still slips me a hundred dollar bill once in awhile to go out and buy something for myself.

| | When my second son was in college, I had to BEG him to buy decent clothes.
"I need some new school clothes," he'd say, "and a winter coat. I think I'll go to the thrift shop."
He'd come home to visit wearing coats that were two sizes too big. He developed attachments to certain old sweaters long after they'd seen their best days.
As he graduated and started going on job interviews, I told him to go out and get a nice suit to interview in. "Don't you DARE go to a thrift shop," I said. "Don't you DARE go to a store that is more of a discount store than Penney's or Sears."
Despite his many fashion faux pas, he is truly an adorable person, and most people fall in love with him when they meet him. He is likeable, has a good sense of humor, and a kind, caring heart.
Sometimes I think he got into this whole anti-fashion jag so that people would concentrate on the beautiful person he is underneath instead of the externals. But there are certain occasions where the externals have to look good, too. | |
