Darwin at work

Hmmmmm, if there was ever a time for insurance companies to turn down claims I'd think this was it.

I just love the line about the surfers "jumping over the sharks" to go surfing...... Yeah, that's smart.

Or the picture of a guy pulling on the sharks tail....

Now I've gone scuba diving and seen sharks -- 50 feet away.

It's almost as smart as the folks standing on the whale carcass and watching the great whites eating it underneath them and trying to pet them in Australia a few weeks ago..

So is Darwin working in Florida?

Hey, honey, pet my shark? I still don't think its as potent a line as Slick's pet my pig, but it has potential...

After my car accident this spring and the following four months in which I did not have a second vehicle, I'm pretty down on insurance companies now, but they're probably within their rights to deny coverage if an area is posted as shark-infested or otherwise dangerous.

Meanwhile, the manner in which man treats the other animals on this planet continues to amaze me. Hikers are wary of snakes and bears, but think nothing of coaxing a potentially rabid squirrel towards them by offering some trail mix. Likewise, swimmers hit a jellyfish filled inlet and express surprise when they're hurt.

Me? I remember when our youngest was still a toddler and we saw some "tame" deer on Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains. These deer had been fed by humans so often that they would approach and nuzzle people. Ever see a dog that stood four feet tall and had antlers? We thought the whole thing was cute for about a minute until we realized that deer are easily spooked and the backfire from a passing truck could cause that animal to move quickly - through us, over us, whatever...

We left rather quickly after that.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby
