Uh huh. Gave me a chance to look at the Top Music Reviewers. Perplexed how I didn't make that list yet people who haven't contributed in awhile got there.

what's most striking to me is how SMALL some of these lists are. Only 6 people are worthy of being top reviewers in restaurants? only FOUR in education? what is the motivation for making things so small-scale? just trying to make sure it's "the best of the best," as the heading of these pages states? (as we've noted, though, they sure haven't seemed to have achieved that very effectively, if that's really their goal.)

upon further examination, things get even sketchier... i took a look at the "recent ratings" (look for the link under the member's 5 most recent reviews, if you haven't found it yet) by one member, who shall remain nameless but who is an editor in more than one category. what's nice is that eps lists 5 pages worth of recent ratings, which will allow those of us who decide to care to do things like count how many reviews editors tend to r/r in a day. (if this person is a guide, not that many, especially considering that this person has multiple editor titles!) what struck me was that this editor's ratings were more than half VH; in 5 pages of ratings, I only saw one NH and only a handful of SHes. Of course, we all know that depending on where you choose to read from (e.g. if you read from notification lists and yahoo groups or if you read from the Just In) you might be giving mostly VHes, but fairly. I think this editor is a fair rater, from what I've seen, so I'm not impugning the ratings. But it does make me wonder what eps standards are here. clearly the "giving the full range of ratings" thing is not that important; it doesn't even seem that it's necessary to do a whole lot of rating each day. perhaps it's the elusive comments, which we don't have access to without clicking on each opinion the editor rated.

sorry for the length...these changes are rather fascinating.

Well, I looked at the TR's in books. Saw a lot of names I agree with. None that I really disagree with, because I don't know everyone's writing. But, I think there are a few other names I would have added.

I agree with Dani257.

I'm only familiar with the books section. I was relieved that I didn't have negative feelings toward any of the writers (I mean I like them all). It's an ok bunch.

However, there are some people missing who deserve to be there and certain sections of Books will suffer for those omissions.

I just got through looking at the movie top reviewers list, and might I add that I'm appalled by it. I mean, I totally agree they needed to trim down from about 60 advisors to now 23, but some of the people they chose are completely unqualified. One, who shall remain nameless, has written less than fifty reviews on Epinions overall, and three movie reviews in the last three months. Others haven't contributed significantly in a long time. I'm not sure what the standards are elsewhere, but they sure stink in movies.

Have a nice day!

Can I just ask this one question (and then I will go back to trying to get my husband to move over to his side of the bed so can sleep)...

Could they have made those buttons any smaller, less noticible or less appealing??

On second though, I have 2 questions (since he probably hasn't moved and is most certainly snoring now to boot)

I though only editors were getting the "most helpful" option, was I wrong?

I was under the impression that all members would have the MH option. You can only give it once, per product, but you can change your mind and rerate.

Now everybody's gonna have to go pick their favorite "General Comment on Epinions" and change the rating to MH. If you get an MH in THAT category then you're truly remarkable

You're telling me...as far as I can tell, there are NO Top Reviewers in the Gourmet category!

I've emailed epinions about that, but I don't expect anything. At least I can sleep comfortably knowing I did my due diligence.
