The Ultimate in Crass!

I was going through the "Just In" a moment ago trolling for innocent newbies to "NH" as a sacrifice to my quest for editorship, when I happened upon a review that caught my interest.

As I often do, I first clicked on the member name to check out this person's profile.

Before I could get to the profile page, a window popped up asking that anyone interested in exchanging reads should email this member.

How freaking vulgar can you get?

Isn't this abuse?

When are these people going to learn that you are not going to get rich here, and the only real fun and satisfaction is earning your hits the honest way?

Rich

In EpinionLand I can't think of much worse than that.

It may not be abuse, but it might be WOD worthy if you want to use the Block feature to count as a vote against click clubbers.

The only way it might be considered abuse would be the fact that there is a pop-up window (just asking for hits probably isn't abuse). I'm not sure of EP's thoughts on members having invasive pop-ups.

Who is it, Rich? I need more hits!

Actually, I agree with you that this person is vulgar and crass. As soon as they realize that Epinions is not going to make them a killing - heck, not even enough for a decent meal out, they'll be gone.

Meanwhile, block that bum! Even if they had 100 rubberstampers playing that game, you're talking about $1 per review. And even with automation, folks are going to bored clicking for a penny a click.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

I left the guy a rather scathing comment about the window.

(By the way, he's also got another offer to exchange hits at the bottom of his profile page.)

Funny thing is that the guy has been around quite a while and otherwise seems responsible.

Can he just be clueless as to what it's all about?

I'll be interested to see if and how he responds to my comment.

Rich

Isn't the popup box against the TOS? I thought you couldn't do stuff like that. I can't think of the "techie" name for it, it's not scripting, but something else....
SOmeone help here, I can't think of the word I want (other than agreeing with Rich about it being crass.)

You mean, I can't get rich here?

Drat! So much for that goal. Now I'll have to try to get someone else.

Hmmm, so many choices, so little time...

Yeah it was against the TOS last time I checked. Ummm... It isn't scripting? Hmm... No idea about my techie then

Not just crass but grounds for instant... Well... Heh I would block them and possibly worse. Not cool, not happy, not fun, incredibly...

Shrug.

Darn! I saw Rich posted something about "the ultimate in crass" and I figured he was letting us know he'd written another epinion. :p

Oh, well, guess I'll have to wait a bit longer for my next Rich fix.

"Ultimate in crass"? Nah, I've seen a lot worse. You must not have been doing much fishing in Just In if that's the worst you've seen.

Sigh. I'd second the WOD suggestion. I sure don't want that guy determining which reviews I see.

I suspect it depends on your tolerance levels with this one Personally I dislike popups pretty badly and so it would bug the heck out of me. I have had people hijack me into their partner sites doing the same sort of thing...

Pop ups are crass, and Epinions uses them too. Yuck.
