I could always start posting pictures. | I wonder if we should have a placenta photo contest. Sort of like the baby photos, (less tasteful of course unless those receipes are really any good), but with placentas of people we know. Guess the placenta!

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | I don't have any pictures of mine, since I have c-sections. I guess I could ask G to try to get one when I have this baby... but we'd have to put the contest off until September. |

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | I think my kittens each had their own. It will be tricky to make sure that Cindy gets the placenta from her puppy, but if anyone could do it I know Cindy can!

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | My cat's kittens each had their own attached by a little teeny cord. Looked like a chunk of steak at the end of a string.

Cindy: Hi, Ms. Fancy-Shmancy Breeder-Lady? We are having a contest over at EA and I was wondering if you could possible make sure to save the placenta from the puppy I'm getting out of the litter? Yes, see, I need a picture of it. Yes, for the contest.
| I have a feeling she might not get the puppy. |

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | Cindy can be quite creative. I'm sure she could find a way to turn into an educational or spiritual event.

We also found a site encouraging people to make arty prints using the placenta.

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | OMG, you guys, I am laughing too hard to tupe! In nor particluar order:
1. Restaurant name - Las Placentas
2. Dog placenta - mom eats them at birth. Somehow, I can't see my breeder wrestling with a determined new mama collie.
3. My placentas are unavailable for photos, unless you'd like to see the various plants they're buried under. Rhododendron, anyone?

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | Oh- placenta prints. I had a couple who did this.
More popular were the belly masks- a plaster cast of the pregnant belly, then the mom paints it in a meaningful way. Personally, I just used the new baby, and my stretch marks which make my stomach look like an accordian on steroids, as souvenirs.

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | They MADE placenta prints?
I always thought the belly masks were a hoot when I saw them on TLC's A Baby Story. The mamas were all waxing rhapsodic about remembering their prengnacies and by the time I'd had Buster, I was shouting at the tv "You mean the boobs and the belly in the wheelbarrow and the stretch marks aren't enough of a reminder??"
I literally can't watch the show any more... too many first time mamas who drive me insane. I seriously hope I wasn't that clueless, and if I was, I'm angry with my friends for not slapping me silly.
When I do catch the show, though, I always cheer for the mamas who refused to give the baby expressed milk in a bottle and actually nurse on camera. It drove me NUTS that none of the episodes I saw when pg with Beanie showed a mama actually nursing. |

| | Re Do You Know What Stat I'd Like to See? | | Oy, I'm sure I was clueless with my first. For example, I still have boxes of quilting squares I cut out while pregnant with #1. Someone told me that babies sleep 20 out of every 24 hours, and so I decided to make quilts while I waited for the baby to wake up. yes, I really was that dumb.
And the placenta cast thing was weird, even though I am not at all disgusted by them. After a home birth, you eamine the placenta to make sure it was delivered whole. However, plopping it into a box of sticky cast stuff was just.,..ick.
