So, how would y'all respond to this

Some forum admin just posted a request for a code modification. If a forum member logs in 50 times without posting, he wants to ban them automatically.

He says he's not running a library for people to read. He's running an interactive site.

Would you all post if I threatened you, or would you tell me to take a broomstick and shove it up my rectum - sideways.

Re So, how would y'all respond to this

There are a lot of people who join groups for information or just for enjoyment and don't feel comfortable posting. Why is that a bad thing? I'd rather have lurkers than spammers or trolls. I run a Yahoo Group with over 200 members... of which MAYBE 25 post at any given time. Most are there for information. They come, they read, they leave.

Re So, how would y'all respond to this

There are times in everyone's life where they just don't feel like interacting. I think it's a little mean, myself, and will drive people away.

BTW, I'll bet everyone who posts in here is a "regular" poster.

I would say that the site would be filled with useless posts from people who don't want to be banned. There is nothing wrong with just reading..

There are forums where that might be appropriate, but this isn't one.

Yeah. !sigh Y'all never did respond well to bullying.

Besides. All I have to do to get you to post is to change the code. Then y'all speak up loud and clear and tell me to hurry the hell up and get your toys working again.

Re So, how would y'all respond to this

We do have a pretty extensive list of people who haven't even *logged on* for aeons (if I'm reading it right)... but I suppose that large number helps if you want to sell ads.

Well, not sideways. But other than that, what Sara said.

There have been times wwhen it was just about all I could do to log in and read, forget actually thinking up anything to say. Still, it was very reassuring to know that y'all were still here. Is it someone doing something like that?

I find positive incentives work better than negative. We love our EA star points, top poster stats, and anything else that makes it fun to chat.

Top arcade scores... oh wait, that doesn't help chatting, does it? :zip:

Re So, how would y'all respond to this

I don't mind lurkers; however, what if someone is only lurking to gather personal information about us? Yes, I know it's my own fault if I post personal information on the internet, but in this forum, I feel a sense of trust that I can do that. I would not be happy if someone had lurked and then put together a bunch of information about me and stole my identity or found out where I live, whatever.
