It's Time to Show Off Your Smarts
On the first Saturday in October, EA will host its first-ever Academic Pentathalon. As teams, you will be quizzed on:

History
Geography
Science and Math
Vocabulary and Grammar
and
Literature

This will be a team event with 3 members per team. Start thinking about who you would like to be on your team - team registrations will open soon.

But What Do I Get if I Win, Oh Wise and Wonderful Amy?
Each member of the winning team will win a graphical trophy that will be visible on their member profile here and on every post they make until they either defend or lose their crown in 3 months.

They also win bragging rights AND each team member may pick 5 smilies that they want added to the EA smilie collection.

What more could you want than that?

I'm on the fence about one thing. Should the teams be random the first go around or should you all pick them?

Can I sign up closer to the date? I want to play, but for a deadline driven freelancer, October is a little far to plan.....

That said, assuming I'm still free then - I'll be on anyone's team who needs someone with a lot of useless knowledge about trivial crap, knowledge about books/literature/music/TV and a substantial number of movies and a decent amount of sports. I'm Math impaired though if it's more complicated than simple bookkeeping - sorry!

I plan on leaving registrations open until the day before the event. That way, we can try to lure in as many teams as possible.

I may even try to recruit some people from the outside to give y'all a run for the money. I know a calculus teacher or two...

I'd love to, but the first Saturday in October I'm either going to be in Dallas for a spa convention or at a craft show. If both those things fall through, I'd love, love to play.

How does it work? Do you post questions and we have a day to come up with answers?

Do we lose points for spelling mistakes?
Do I ask too many questions?

Do we register and you make teams? Yes. I think that is the most fair way. I don't want to remind people of not getting picked to play kickball in elementary school.

Do we pick teams? No. I will.
Do you make the teams or pull names from a hat? It will be random.
What are the subjects? Listed in the first post.

How does it work? Do you post questions and we have a day to come up with answers? There will be five quizzes. Each team member will take all of the quizzes. You will not see your results or the correct answers after you submit your answers. The team with the highest combined score winds.

Is there a time limit? The quizzes will be open one week. Each quiz will be timed.

Do we lose points for spelling mistakes? I think most of it will be multiple choice. Spelling WILL count for any fill in the blanks.

Do I ask too many questions? No
Do you hate me? Of course not.
