How Many Of You Kept Your Kids Home Today?

I kept Bekka home from school today. She was a bit stressed, and saying she didn't feel good. I don't think she is really *sick* but the enormity of what happened yesterday is affecting us all in some way.

I kept her home with me today because I CAN. Because she is safe and healthy and everything a normal 7 year old can be. I want her where I can just hug her if I want to.

she got whiney earlier, and you know what-I'm grateful that we are both here-that she can be crabby over her brother wanting her toys and I am grateful I can hear her voice.

I also thought that today might be a hard day at school with kids wouned up. so for today she is home with me. My husband told me to take her, but didn't really seem to want her to go either.

So she is downstairs watching a Schoolhouse Rock Video, I'm watching I Love Lucy-I don't know if my email to UPN made a difference but they put regular programing on last night and have posted hourly notices showing their solidarity for the loss of a nation. and for that I'm grateful.

My daughter is off to school. She seems to be handling things well. I'm sick too, so I wouldn't be much help to her.

I think it's good for her to be at school. She can talk about it with other kids and with counselors there, if she needs to. And I'm here if she needs me.

Jack is home with me. He's just under two, so it's more for my benefit than for his. Mommy needed extra hugs and kisses today.

My boys are both at school. I know they're safe, we've talked (last night and a bit this morning) and they know they can call me if they need me for anything, and I feel strongly that the more "business as usual" we can be in our actions the better. (But I understand the need to be within hugging distance completely. That's how I was all day yesterday.)

Now if only I was actually getting some work done. I just can't focus - work doesn't seem very important right now.

My daughter went to school today. I visited there awhile because I played the piano at their church service.

Why? Well, the handbook says "15 days' absence, tops."

I am going to a Music and Liturgy conference in Mesa, Arizona in October, and my family is coming with me. She'll miss 5 days.

She's been sick one day already.

I can't afford to let her take days off this early in the school year unless there's a really serious reason.

My big boys are in college. They went to class yesterday. Matthew -- I homeschool him. About 11 this morning, we heard airplanes for the first time since Tuesday. We have too many tall trees in our yard to see what kind, so we went for a walk. The only one we saw was clearly civilian. Sometimes we get military flights over us, but none since Tuesday. I guess they've been busy.
