volunteer stuff

For those of you in the tristate area who want to volunteer - many organizations, including my own (The Salvation Army) are currently inundated and cannot accept any more at this time. But please remember - this is an ongoing situation and we will need volunteers in the weeks to come. We usually get a lot of volunteers the first few days but not many after that, and The Sal was at the WTC for 3 weeks after the bombing a few years ago.

For those of you outside the tristate area who want to do something, contact your local Salvation Army or Red Cross to help coordinate donation shipments (sorting, loading trucks, etc.). My friends back home in Buffalo have been able to do some hands-on work that way.

Redlass is on a distinguished road

Here's another one (paragraphs taken from Mercy Corps site):

The Hunger Site (www.thehungersite.com), the Internet's most popular humanitarian website, will designate all proceeds from today until Sept. 30 to provide food to relief workers and stricken families in New York and Washington, D.C.

Every time visitors click on The Hunger Site, Mercy Corps and America's Second Harvest will receive funding to provide a cup of food to firefighters, rescue workers, policeman, volunteers, survivors and others in need of help.
