Question for Editors (comments from others welcome too)

As many of you know, Editor ratings haven't been sticking for almost a week now. (At least mine haven't!)

I've always felt that it was really discouraging to write a review that wasn't rated by an expert/advisor of some sort. When I was new especially, it was like, "Gee... I'm not important enough to get rated?"

I've also noticed that some rubberstampers have gone hog wild over the past week. I've been pleased that many of them have been negated by some concientious raters, but still think the Editor rating is needed in a few places to totally even things out.

I would be surprised if the any ratings that Editors have attempted to leave over the past week stick at all. If that's the case, is there a way that Editors can organize to make sure that every review that has been posted over the past week gets rated by at least one Editor?

Or is that a totally stupid idea? I can handle it if people think it is!

Gracie, Gracie, Gracie -- It's actually a wonderful idea, but I'm not sure how in the world we could coordinate such a thing. Beyond that, there's today's scheduled site outage. (shrug) Like January, I suspect this is going to be one of those times when Epinions is almost completely mum.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Well, it wouldn't be today anyway... my ratings still aren't sticking!

It also wouldn't have to be done in one day. I was actually thinking it would take place over a one week period.

As for coordination, all I have to suggest is a novel concept for Epinions members... cooperation. All it would really take would be one 'expert' from each section to take the lead for the effort of coordinating the other experts in that section. Or some common sense on the part of experts. If you start on the page of the 'Just In' and see that one or more experts have already been there, go on to the next page. Some reviews might be missed but not as much as the big gaping lot of reviews that have been missed so far.

I know in the grand scheme of things, this isn't important. But for me, concentrating on the stupid, nitpicky details helps me to cope with the greater realities that are so incomprehensible to me.

Grace,

I've been thinking about this all week. The music editors usually, without even talking about it go back in time and get older reviews when site outages and other huge mishaps occur. I think if memory serves, the music just in page goes back like 20-30 pages. When I've gone that route before, I've been able to access music reviews from two weeks prior.

I think they just killed the just in going back a ways with this last version. I just checked the movies' just in and it showed blank pages and shifted to only five...

Grace, I would be glad to cooperate. You are talking about going back many days; this has been going on since September 7!

I fully intend to go back and rate every hardware and software review assuming they are still accessible via just in (and i will hit some of the major subcategory just in as well).

Grace --

I think you are making a very valid (and true) point! I noticed the excessive amount of very helpfuls being adhered to low quality book and kf reviews. I do agree that editors will have excessive work once Epinions fixes the dratted rating mode.
