Okay, you may think I'm weird, but I enjoy watching C-Span. Right now (1:34pm MDT) I am sitting here scratching my head. I am watching Rep. Danny Davis speaking on the House Floor (live, mind you) for a resolution honoring baseball player Tony Gwynn.

Why am I sitting here scratching my head?

Surely, in the House of Representatives, with all the stuff that's been going on since September 11th (let's not forget doing the regular business of the nation, not just the aftermath of Sept 11th), there is something more pressing than honoring a retiring Padre baseball player.

Isn't there?

If they’re goung to talk baseball, they could instead be holding hearings about the Designated Hitter rule. If that’s not an abomination, I don’t know what is.

As a long time CSPAN viewer, I can say that this isn't unusual. They often pass resolutions to honor sports figures and various other people with no real connection to politics or government. If someone wins a spelling bee, you can be assured that their congressman will sponsor a resolution to honor them. Seriously, I think just about every retiring athlete, athlete who sets some record of note, national spelling bee winner, state science fair winner, etc. gets one of these.

I have no problem with what they're doing -- I'm wondering why they're televising THIS and not one of 6,000,000 other events that's going on right now.

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood why you were complaining. Perhaps there aren't committees in session? Most of the time if there aren't CSPAN stays in the main house no matter what they happen to be discussing there. It's getting awfully close to the October break...I'd suspect a lot of things are winding down unless they are directly related to possible war/relief efforts/etc. Just guessing.

I believe CSPAN is contractually obligated to be showing house activities of some sort when they are happening (I am reaching deep into the back of my memory here and could be wrong).
