Tony Blair

Be still my heart.

Really -- did anyone see his speech? It was fantastic.

And, in case we've gotten beyond the point where it's considered high treason to express even the most remotely negative thought about George Bush, I must admit I couldn't help thinking that I wish we had a leader here who could speak as well as Blair.

My RealPlayer got corrupted and needs to be re-installed (grumble), so I can‘t view a RealPlayer version (excerpt?) of it at available from the BBC. Anyone know of a QuickTime URL for the speech?

Bush's speech to Congress was excellent as well. He has been getting much better at speeches, although his umms and ahhhs during press conferences gets on my nerves.

Tony Blair's content was wonderful, but I think part of the appeal with his delivery is the way he talks. Everything sounds better when said in a British accent, from "Would you like to come to tea with the Queen" to "I'm about to have explosive diarrhea and cannot locate a restroom".

LOL.

And yeah, there's a lot of truth to that. But I did like the way Blair dealt more with the complexities, the way he brought up legitimate misgivings people might have about what he was proposing, and then dealt with them in a very effective way. To me, what he said was persuasive because it was so well thought out and because it did acknowledge and address all the alternate points of view.

Yeah, but doesn't he sort of look like Mr. Bean?
