And a month ago probably no one would have cared to do much reading about it or telling others about it because, after all, it happened "somewhere over there."

One of the nice things about being out of touch for a couple of days (a two-day Jewish holiday just finished, during which I don't watch TV, listen to the radio or go on-line) is that you miss all the "raw news" and get to catch up once it's been properly digested.
