| | Here's another fine mess I've gotten myself into | | Well, I just quit my day job--with no other steady gig in sight.
<ahem>
The insecure little voice in my head is now screeching "You IDIOT, what have you done????"
But the smug little voice in my head is whispering, "Woman you were wasting valuable time and effort with those bozos. You provided excellent work, turned it over on a dime and instead of kissing your spiffy little shoesies, they spit on them instead"
Lord knows, my long suffering SO has been telling me the latter thing for the last 2 years so he is happy with the turn of events that has precipitated this.
So, if anyone knows anyone who needs someone who can turn in top drawer writing and can turn it in fast, accurately, reliably and with a warped sense of humor, could you let me know?
I guess I am going to be looking for another job!

Just think of all the spare time you'll have for stepping!
Yeah, I know. But, it was worth a shot.
Congratulations on making a gutsy move. I'm sure you'll turn up a new gig in no time.

| | Cyndi, that move took guts, and you've shown you have them. You've shown you are a strong woman, so it is only a matter of time before something bigger and better comes along! |

| | Cyndi,
Now you have plenty of time to devote to finding a new job. I'm sure this will turn out well.

| | Cyndi,
Hmmmm... this isn't exactly the best time to just get up and leave, but it's obviously something you needed to do, so I guess congratulations are in order.
But as was said above, now you can dedicate your time to find another job and get your career up and running again.
Best of luck,
Jeff |

| | | Folks thought I was nuts when I bailed when I did, and they were right. The jerk-offs who had taken over the budget meetings and management sessions were driving me and many others nuts and sick.
No sense in that. I'd rather starve.
Looking back, I *could* have taken a part-time or contract position, but I didn't know I'd still be in this city in OCTOBER! Starting to crank up the search myself from several hundred miles away.
Use this time wisely with with no mercy. Get your head on straight, spit out the bad taste they may have left in your mouth, and tear into the papers for the next opportunitity. Network the living daylights out of your contacts, and remember those that aren't there when they said they'd be there for you, and also remember those who are there when you needed them most. |

| | Ah, File, I am so glad you replied to my (slightly anguished) howl. I was curious as to what you would say and you stated in a most articulate way exactly how I am feeling. Thank you. I will.
And to all of you who offered congratulations and attaboys (even you Jeff! ) a most sincere thank you. I don't have what you would call great self-esteem, so hearing that the move was gutsy and that I would be ok, makes all the difference.
All I can think of is the phrase "one door closes, another opens".
Although I may be one of those "leading economic indicators" (i.e., I am the person you can count on to tell you conclusively that the bottom is dropping out of the economy ) I will be a happier leading economic indicator having (nicely) told my boss to shove it where the sun don't shine.
I should have done this a long time ago--I was just afraid that I would not be able to take my success and replicate it somewhere else. Dumb but true. Gotta work on that.
Thanks for the help gang!
Cyndi

| | Cyndi,
It was a gutsy thing to do, and only you can say if it's the right or the wrong thing.
I've only told one employer to "shove it" and I only did so after having another job. It was still really traumatic (especially after a series of my being told to "shove it" by previous employers; I pretty much knew I could work at that place for life if I wanted to do so).
I must admit I'm not familiar with the writing you did at your day job. If you want to PM some details of what type of work you are looking for and location parameters I'll see if I can think of any possibilities.

| | I quit Indiana University without having another job to go to.
I ended up in Parliament a month later.
I quit Parliament without another job to go to.
I ended up back at Indiana University two weeks later.
I quit Indiana University again without another job to go to.
I ended up at Ivy Tech (a small technical college) a week later.
I quit Ivy Tech without another job to go to.
I ended up at the local school corporation two days later.
I quit the school corporation without another job to go to.
I ended up at the Indiana Literacy Foundation the next day.
I've never had much luck finding a job while I've been employed (this job at CTS is the first one to come along when I've been already employed) -- there's just something about not having the job that seems to motivate the universe (meaning, me) into action.
Good luck! |

| | Wished I had that luxury, Cindi. If I weren't so close to retirement I'd tell the boss man to "stick it where the sun don't shine." Instead, I'm trudging on.
4.5 years and counting...
Best of luck to you. |
