New Protest, Who Is In??

Protest Idea: ( I believe this will be better received than EBD)

The way I have always recommended helping Epinions is by making sure that whenever we purchase anything on line we do so via an Epinions link...

As a way of protest, I say we do just the opposite, especially with Christmas coming around I can see this being effective...

Be sure and DO NOT link to any retailers though Epinions, but instead go to the sites directly (ie, just go to www.amazon.com instead of a book link on Epinions.)

Each time we purchase something in this manner, we should set up a mailbox that everyone sends a basic description of their purchases. We then can send an e-mail to Epinions once a week (or sooner) outlining what purchases we chose to make by avoiding an Epinions link (that we may otherwise would have used) and how much that purchase was.

Sometimes when you see it in the pocketbook, things change quicker....

this would require a lot of participation, but I think we could pull off a major coup here....

A good idea...

But I was thinking about emailing every advertiser that cooperates with the site and let them know that until epinions stops blowing dogs, I won't be purchasing from them anymore.

(Not exactly like that though....it will be in a professional manner)

The more passive activists will probably enjoy your idea better though.

As a passive personality, I think it's a good idea. I still am not with the 'EBD' idea. I value my time and Epinions much too much to throw it all down the drain...

Like I said, good idea.

Um, if people were in fact using those links in the first place, I suspect people would actually be getting paid just a tad more then squat.

Besides, considering ad rates, for this protest to work, you'd pretty much need 1,000's of folks who with an regularity actually used those links, decide not to. Not to throw water on the fire, but It really wouldn't be all that effective.

Thumbs down

What would this accomplish? If Epinions actually lost money from this type of act from its users, it will simply be closer to shutting down its doors permanently.

If it's a choice of Epinions without an edit/delete function (gee, just like a real magazine or newspaper!) or no Epinions at all, I'll just take the site the way it is.

Ah, except at a real newspaper or magazine two editors and two copyeditors would have edited each posting before it was ever printed. In many places, several more people would read it first.
