Finally ... an email from Epinions about CP

It's at least a week late and they still haven't sent out any email regarding eroyalties, but they've at last sent out an email announcing the end of the content partner sites.

Here's what I (and, I hope and presume, all others who requested email updates) received:

Thank you for your participation in Epinions Content Partner
Program. On Wednesday, October 25th, Epinions announced that
as part of an effort to improve website performance, the
Content Partner Program would be discontinued in mid-November
2001 and Content Partner Eroyalties will be discontinued on
November 1st 2001. Please see the announcement in the Member
Center for details at:

http://www.epinions.com/member

We realize this is a difficult transition for many of you who
have invested time and effort into customizing your partner
sites. We hope the benefits to all Epinions members of
increasing website performance and reducing site bugs will be
worth this difficult tradeoff.

We wanted to give advance notice of the end of the program in
part to allow you time to review your content partner site
earnings details from your member profile pages. When this
transition happens, your member profile pages will be updated
to include only the total dollar amount earned by any or all of
your content partner sites - you will not be able to see
individual content partner site earnings details after this
change occurs.

We encourage you to review your earnings details over the next
few days while they are still visible on the site, and contact us
with any questions or concerns. Please note that after this
transition, it will become significantly more difficult for our
community care group to investigate content partner site-related
earnings issues, and you may experience significant delays in
responses to inquries on this topic.

Please note that when the Content Partner Program ends, all
existing partner site links will be redirected to the corresponding
page on www.epinions.com and all partner site customization elements
will no longer be visible. Finally, the Content Partner referral
program will officially end with the discontinuation of the Content
Partner Program.

(b) Did you check off on your Epinions profile that you want to receive occasional emails about the CP program? (You can go to "Edit Profile" to check.)

In my eager rush to see if I got the e-mail, I rushed to my bulk e-mail folder and... pressed *delete all bulk mail* Oops

I asked to be off the mailing list for their moviemail and think that they might have unsubscribed me from all of their mails though... Not really sure though It says I am subscribed (or it did)...

Ummm.. My CPS has had a fair amount of Traffic (most of it was mine though--I did get two or three people that signed up on it though...)...

Epinions is apparently trying its hand at irony. I also got this letter today--the day AFTER Epinions Community Care finally got around to removing my account.

It's all about timing, people.

I also asked to be unsubscribed from their movie mail .. twice I think but I did receive a copy of the CP e-mail.


I suppose ... that when they say "We wanted to give advance notice of the end of the program in part to allow you time to review your content partner site earnings details from your member profile pages" that it could be argued that they are giving some advance notice that "the Content Partner Program would be discontinued in mid-November 2001.

However they are left rather high and dry on the fact that the "advanced" notice came out on November 6th included the comment Content Partner Eroyalties will be discontinued on
November 1st 2001.

They received a lot of feedback suggesting that they should have sent an e-mail to all the CP holders (either before or at the same time that they posted it in the member center). So .... I'm glad that they finally sent something. It's good practice.

I hope you get your letter soon, Janice. Of course, I didn't get the last many letters that everyone else seemed to get, so I'm surprised that I got this one so quickly.
