What's the Difference?

http://chicagotribune.com/news/local...l=chi-news-hed

I'll surmise, but feel free to read the article.

A Cook County judge was impeached and removed from office this week for sexual harassment. Judge Oliver Spurlock made suggestive remarks to female prosecutors, had kissed two of them, and had used his chambers as his bedroom away from his bedroom.

At first, Spurlock denied the accusations and fought them, but later Spurlock admitted that he had used his chambers for his sexual encounters -- incluing that of his own court reporter -- and that of a young clerical worker from the state's attorney office.

The panel cited, among other things, that Judge Spurlock was impeached and removed because it was "an embarassment to the robe."

One could argue, and I suppose cite precedent, that this was his own personal life, and after all it was only concerning sex... yet he was impeached and removed...

One could also argue that a corrupt Cook County Democratic political machine is capable of dispensing common sense judgement and impeaching a lowlife scumbag more effectively than a Republican-dominated Congress that focused solely on face-time on television, getting re-elected and rhetoric.

That and the fact that a state Code of Judicial Conduct and the federal Constitution are quite different. "...a lack of sensitivity to the potential for conflict and the appearance of impropriety" may be enough to get you fired from a state judgeship, but it's not sufficient cause under the U.S. Constitution.

I agree they are both different but I disagree because both men violated the laws applicable to them.
