It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

We gots ourselves some of dat der white puffy stuff!

Seems that it snowed last night here in the Colorado desert. It was, of course, predicted by the nightly news weatherpeople, who IMO are all idiots. Weather reporting is the only job I can think of that your average of doing what you're supposed to do is worse than hitting a baseball.

They said, 1-3 inches of snow. Welp, I've been outside, and it's more like 7-9 inches of snow, and it's still acomin'.

Then, of course, you have idjits who don't have a clue how to drive in the snow out there learnin' and teachin' themselves how to operate one of dem dar fancy ottomowbeels with their summer tires. You know, the ones that have at least 50,000 miles on them and are balder than Al Gore. Seems that the tire store didn't have a good sale so they're gonna make dem tires last just one more winter.

So, I had to be at the north end of Denver at 10:00am. I left about 8:15am. It's now 9:40am, and I just walked through the door. It took me an hour and a half to do -- get this -- two miles. I finally called the client and said he could wait there until I got there (I had about 26 miles to go) or we could reschedule the appointment. He chose (thank God) to reschedule.

People need to learn how to drive.

Amen. I learned how to drive in snow in Buffalo, so I'm good to go. It's the ijits around me here in Long Island who drive me insane. A few pointers:

1) Congratulations on owning a small, light, two-seater, fancy sports car. No, it won't go through that drift nor will it have much traction on hard-packed snow since it weighs about 7 ounces.

2) Just because you own an SUV does not mean you won't have an accident. In fact, since you're driving your SUV like you're indestructable, you're going to be MORE likely to have an accident. No, 4-wheel drive does not improve your odds of having traction when you've hit ice at 45mph.

3) The material they use to make those nice, smooth roads you enjoy in the summer are not meant for winter weather. Be prepared to slip and slide, even though the pavement just looks wet.

4) When they say "overpasses freeze first," they mean it.

5) Seriously, you don't need to muscle everyone out of the way on your urgent drive to get to the supermarket to get the last loaf of bread and carton of milk. With a predicted 3" of snow, you will not be stuck in your house for days and forced to eat your family pets if you don't get that bread and milk. Besides, when was the last time you ate bread or drank milk?

Those were my observations this past weekend. I'm sure I'll think of more.

That happens here a lot, too.

Lots of people who don't know how to drive in snow in the university town.

Just stay home...

well, the sidewalks up my way are melting now, but the side roads SUCK. I have to pick up my daughter in a couple of hours and I'm not looking forward to it. I HATE DRIVING IN SNOW! I love sitting inside a nice warm house when it's snowing outside, but not actually LEAVING the house!

Yeah the sun just came out here, too. I'm hoping Michelle won't take a whole bunch of hours to get home.

OK, people what is going on here? Early in the season I took the kiddies to the store to get them all ready for old man winter. We got gloves, scarves, hats, snow pants - the whole works. And if we got a total of 6" so far this year I'd be impressed. And of course, it hasnt come down all at once. We got 1/4 inch here, a dusting there. So today it looke like maybe we'd see snow. IT'S RAINING!!! It isnt supposed to rain in January way up here.

well, we just tried to make a snowman and the snow is that soft fluffy stuff that you cannot get to stick in a ball. PHOOEY.

on the bright side the side streets seem to be melting-My husband says most of the main roads/highways are mostly clear now.
