We just lost a police officer in the local area two days ago. Upper Darby, a suburb right outside of Philadelpia, has never had an officer killed in the line of duty. That record ended two days ago.
The tragedy is compounded because inadequate computer records allowed the career criminal to have been released on just $100 bond in 1999. This isn't a case of a "liberal" judge overlooking a lengthy criminal career and setting bail way too low, she
didn't have the information about his criminal history, and he wasn't volunteering it.
The story here.
Saddens me to no end. I'm always sad when a police officer is killed in the line of duty, but to have a systematic data entry problem be at the root, is just, well,
criminal.
