It's funny you brought this to our attention. I was just talking about physical exercise for babies with my SIL.

My pediatrician had told me that although the "back to sleep" campaign is great for SIDS (putting a child to sleep on his back rather than his belly), it has been terrible for babies to help form muscles. He always suggested PLENTY of belly time on a blanket to make up for it.

But, now that winter has come, we have been spending a lot of time at a gymnastics place where the kids have free play on all of the equipment - from climbing ropes, to trampolines, to the large mats to roll on and the balancing beams. Guess we picked a great spot to hang out for the winter.

Tina~

Gyms can be an excellent place to spend time with children of all ages. I think it models a good habit and provides a nice activity for the entire family. Most gyms are willing to add some items that are child friendly / or have such already.

Our local YMCA has the adventure zone. Lots of fun activity tubes, mats, and so forth.
