CNN: Alert issued for potential teddy bear bombs
I suppose this deserves to be set to music... Teddy Bear Picnic, anyone?
If you go down to the store today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you buy BBs and propane gas
You'd better go in disguise.
For ev'ry Fed that ever there was
Will gather here for certain, because
Today's the day the Teddy Bear bombs exploded |

| | This is scary. All the things we take for granted could be used to hurt us. It's a different world. Never before would people think twice about getting their mail, holding teddy bears, or men playing with their sneakers. Ug.
Ummm... in my Irish sense of morbid humor, you gotta hand it to the person who came up with the title of the thread "Valetine's Gifts that Bomb" for being psychic. |

| | Imagine all the guys and gals who bought this bear. The recipients are going to call the bomb squad!
Now that a Valentine gift that really bombs. |

| | I'm suddenly grateful I don't get gifts for Valentine's Day...

| | I saw this on the news as I awoke this morning. I thought I was just groggy and still dreaming. Hmmmm... |

| | I think if anyone got a stuffed animal which felt like it was full of BBs and a canister of propane, they would be a little suspicious.

| | There are more possibilities than just giving or selling those bears to someone.
One could bring them on the plane, if they could get them past security.
Yeah... anyway... that's the only other possibility I can think of, other than giving it or selling it to someone.
But, if you were going to give/sell it, how hard would it be to put more of the stuffing around the outside of the canister and bbs, so while it would be hard in the middle, it would just seem very firm.
I have some stuffed animals with hard middles. They're all ones that talk or move though. Still, I'm sure there are ways to fool people.
Sick world. |

Forget the "hard middle" but the weight would probably give it away.
And you're not going to get that bear past a metal detector, nor an x-ray machine. If you were jsut going to hide it in checked baggage there is little need for the bear.
I'm not saying that some stupid malicious person wouldn't attempt to make a harmful device with the thing, I'm just saying that the possibilities that wouldn't raise suspicion are limited.

| | But no one is going to be checking it if you take it on a city bus, or to the mall, a movie theater, a school....
Hopefully, the guy just had nine girlfriends and was going to do a little camping with the propane and clay pigeon shooting with the shot. |

What I think is that people imagine elaborate plans where there are none, and overlook the simple.
